Tyree LaNarda Bailey

Sunrise: August 24, 2003

Sunset: November 16, 2024

“We have an angel amongst us, for Tyree has gained his wings.”

Tyree LaNarda Bailey, 21, affectionately known as “Boodie,” left this earthly world and entered eternal rest on November 16, 2024. Born on August 24, 2003, this precious child was born to Ebony Darden and Travis Bailey.

Early in life, Tyree was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and Dandy-Walker Syndrome, which caused him to be non-verbal and wheelchair-bound. However, he was still able to attend school. He started his education in the Suffolk Public School System and completed school in the Newport News Public School System. Tyree was non-verbal in the sense that he did not speak like everyone else did. He had his own way of communicating and making himself heard. One word that he completely mastered was “uh oh.” He used it proudly and loudly! He had even mastered saying “Mama” one or two times. Tyree adored his mother; she was the apple of his eye. With Tyree’s diagnosis, the doctors did not give him a long life expectancy; therefore, each passing year above what the doctors predicted was a miracle and a blessing. These 21 years of miracles and blessings can be attributed to the love and care that Tyree received from his mother.

Tyree was the family’s special child, the family’s “spoiled boy,” as his aunt Latrice would call him. He had a contagious smile that would always make others smile because it was from ear to ear. His laughter was also contagious, and you could not help laughing every time Tyree laughed. He enjoyed watching T.V. with his granddaddy, James, even if it was football or westerns. Tyree enjoyed being the center of attention, so don’t try to look at T.V. and not pay Ty any attention. If you did so, he would talk throughout the show unless you stopped watching it to talk to him. He always smiled when he heard his nephews talking and would smile even more when he heard his sister fuss at them because he knew that they were in trouble. He loved going on road trips and the light of stars that shined on his bedroom wall at night. He was just a joy to everyone who knew him.

Tyree was preceded in death by his maternal great grandparents, Arthur and Annie Darden; paternal great grandfather, Russell Bailey, Sr.; uncle, Maurice A. Darden, Sr.; two great aunts and three great uncles.

Tyree leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Ebony A. Darden; his father, Travis L. Bailey; sister, Kayla Darden; two brothers, Omari and Tristan Bailey; maternal grandparents, James and Linda Mateen; paternal grandparents, Darlene Byrd and Carl Robinson; two uncles, Sharif Darden and Carlos Branch; three aunts, Latrice Darden, Meisha Darden, and Shaneka Byrd. Two nephews, Dallis and Khristian Downing; niece, Kirisi Setzer; paternal great grandmothers, Peggy Bailey and Hortense Harrell; his nurses who loved him as their own, Pearl Barksdale, Christopher Scott and Jacquelyn Tillus and a host of great aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.

“Fly high, Tyree, with your newly claimed wings, and then rest easy. We love you so much, “spoiled boy,” and will miss you deeply.”
