Turner Sanderlin

Turner Sanderlin known to his family and friends as “Mr. T” peacefully departed this life on August 27, 2020 at DePaul Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis T. and Fannie G. Sanderlin, son, Termain Hill, six sisters, Verna Mae Sanderlin, Sarah Gresham, Mary Smallwood, Beulah Mae Merritt, Dorothy Bond and Zenovia Watson and one brother, Norman Sanderlin.

Turner was born in Windsor, NC. He graduated from Bertie High School and later attended Culinary Art School. He relocated to Norfolk, Virginia where he became gainfully employed was a chef for over forty years, and where he met his wife Brenda of twenty-four years. “Mr. T” as he was known on various jobs over the years was employed with the Sheraton Hotel for ten years, Marriott Hotel for fifteen years and with Town Point Club for fifteen years until his passing. Mr. T specialty was honeybun cake, famous bread pudding, homemade macaroni, and cheese, amongst many other foods that helped him earn “Top Chef” many, many times over the years. Brother Turner was a member
of Prayer and Deliverance Center under the leadership of Pastor James E. Nicholson, Sr. he was an usher, sung in the choir at one time. Brother Turner received the gift of the Holy Ghost in noonday prayer in 2005.

One of his favorite scriptures was Psalm 30:5 “Weeping may endure for a night but, JOY cometh in the morning.”

He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends and his special granddaughters; Kennisha and Luriya Stokes.

Left to cherish his precious memories is his loving wife, Brenda Sanderlin, children, Charles Stokes (Tovia), Antonio Stokes, Travis Johnson (Tamra) Dominic Sanderlin and Latricia Patterson (Troy) thirteen grandchildren, thirty three great- grandchildren,siblings; Barbara Goodrich (Curtis), Joanna Cooper (Kendin), Edwards Sanderlin (Brenda), Melvina Simmons, Joseph Hill (Celestine) Patti Watson (Steve) sisters-in-law, brothers-in law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

    Mr. T, You have been a true friend and loyal servant at The Town Point Club. I have always cherished our time together as you know.
    I will dearly miss your Bread Pudding, however I know your guests in heaven will take my place for now. We will meet again someday, my friend if I am so lucky. I will also miss your warm smile and gentle nature.
