Remembering Travis’s Life

Travis Jermaine Carter, also known as “my black child,” “Smokey,” and “Flybo,” was called home on Monday, February 3, 2025, to be with The Lord.

Travis was born on November 7, 1985, in Norfolk, VA, to the late Fabian Cowell and Shelia Carter. Travis is pre-deceased by his father, Fabian E. Cowell, his maternal grandmother, Odell A. Carter, and his paternal grandfather, William H. Carter. Travis went to Norfolk Public Schools. He worked at Steel Service’s Inc. in Norfolk, VA, and made a good life for his children. Travis always showed up for his family and enjoyed being around his family. Travis leaves to cherish his memory his dear mother, Sheila Carter-Brooks (Richard), his three daughters, Tranasia, Trionna Carter, and Des’yiah Thornton, his four sons, Tryvon, Trayvon, Trion Carter, and Travis Russell, all of Norfolk, VA, His two brothers, Fabian Tremaine Carter “(Flave)”, and Fabian Cowell. One Sister, Sharonda Spence, and one nephew, Sharod Spence. His paternal grandmother, Rose Cowell, and a special friend, Deborah Williams, are all from Norfolk, VA.

Travis also leaves to cherish his memories his six Aunts, Bonnie Carter, Terry Craft, Sharon Carter, Charlene Carter-Weeks, Barbara White and Raven Stanail, and three uncles, William Lee Carter, Jr., Champ Carter and Channing Carter, all of Norfolk, VA and a host of “Cousins by the dozens.” Travis will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him and a devoted friend, Larry Benton.
