Tony Bernard “Syke-Bone” Sykes, age 62, was called home to be with the Lord on March 1, 2019. He was born on December 8, 1956, Norfolk, VA to Joseph Sykes and the late Eunice Janet Jones. Tony received his early education at Maury High School and later attended Elizabeth City State University. He served his country in the United States Air Force for a short period of time. Tony started his career as a Vendor in the Hampton Roads area. He worked for 7UP, Cocoa-Cola, Pepsi-Cola, Wonder Bread, Wise
and Tri Cities Beverages. He would ultimately finish his career as a Truck Driver for Time Dispatch Inc. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing basketball, Tennis and Chess. His favorite sports gear was ADIDAS. He spent many days making friends in the neighborhoods he grew up in Old Ghent, Colonial Place and Park Place. His favorite football team was the Oakland Raiders.
Tony was a lover of music, as he would attend many music festivals to
hear the musical sounds of Frankie Beverly & Maze, Parliament Funkadelic and Stephanie Mills. Tony enjoyed life, but the most important part of his life, was when he accepted Christ as his Lord and personal Savior. Tony was predeceased by his mother Eunice Janet Jones, brother
Gary Sykes and sister Jennifer Leigh-Ann. He was also predeceased
by his life partner Wendy Bandy. He is survived by daughters Tonita and TeShara Sykes (Mother Donna Sykes-Washington), Briana Brown (Mother Wendy Bandy); sons Jeremy Bellamy and Matthew Brown; sisters Jonita Sykes-Joyner of Maryland, Andrea Jones-Gray (Webley) and Pamela Knight; brothers Byron Sykes and Derrick Jones; one granddaughter Aundrea Brown and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
