Tomeka Valentine

Sunrise: March 15, 1976

Sunset: March 10, 2023

On March 10, 2023, the Lord called our beautiful angel, Tomeka Lashune Valentine home, also known as“Meka”to her family, friends and associates. She was the daughter of Dorothy Shaw (John), father Edward Mason. She is preceded in death by her grandmother Jessie Mae Valentine and Dorothy Yancey. She was 46 years old. She was born on March 15, 1976, in Norfolk, Virginia.

Tomeka accomplished so many milestones in her life. She attended Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia. For many years Tomeka worked at Hardee’s off Princess Ave Road as a cashier and as a fire watcher at Metro and Colonna Shipyard. When Tomeka was not working full time, she worked with the youth at the Huntersville Community Center. While working with the youth she was the head cheerleader coach for the Huntersville Wolverines for six years. Tomeka loved working with people so much, just a month before her passing, she decide to gear her passion for people and switched her employment to a different level. She started working at Sentara Leigh Hospital as a Service Associate in the Environmental Service Department and worked at McDonalds as a cashier.

As a young girl Tomeka attended Bethel Baptist Church alongside her mother. Then as she gotten older, she became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for several years. Two weeks prior to her transitioning she made Bethel Baptist Church her official home church.

Tomeka was loved by many. She leaves to cherish her memory, her amazing mother Dorothy Shaw (John), father Edward Mason. Grandmother Fannie Mason, three sons: Deshune, Detrone and Debyron Valentine. Two daughters: Bernisha and Bernika Valentine. Eight granddaughters: Jakeda Martin, Deajah, Makenzie, Honestii, De’Nylah, Da’Zire Valentine, A’Nilah Wilson, and Athena Williams. Seven grandsons: Za’Kahari, Kamron, Jaycion, Kaleb Valentine, Brandon, Breontae Trent, and Tarion Williams Jr. Two sisters: Ebony and Shavone Valentine. Two brothers: Edward Valentine and Devon Carter (Shiquae) and host of nieces, nephews, great nephews, aunts, uncles, family, friends, and a very special friend Ray Crite.

Remember her good grace even though our hearts may be filled with sorrow. Tears may flow, but we should be still our grief and think of what this homegoing really means to us. Instead of being burdened with sadness, we ought to rejoice and thank God for her life which leaves behind a radiance of purity, goodness and peace.

Cousin I am still in disbelief, you mess me up with this one. I’m so hurt that your gone. I learned a valuable lesson, I kept saying I’m going to go see her and as always I kept putting it off just like many other things. Now I can’t see your beautiful face anymore. What I will do is always remember the talks we had. I’m glad we both know we loved each other and I will continue to love you forever and always. Take your rest. We will see each other again. Gone but never forgotten. We’ll miss and love you.
