On July 24, 2024, our heavenly father chose to bring his son, Timothy James Bennett, age 39, home to be with him. Timothy was born on February 21, 1985, to Nathaniel Bennett, Sr and Linda Bennett in Washington, DC. Timothy’s life journey was marked by dedication to his education, family, and community.
Growing up in Washington, DC, Timothy had many fun and exciting adventures, including being a camp counselor, junior vacation Bible school teacher, Sunday School scholar and briefly playing in the band in high school. He was a proud graduate of Calvin Coolidge High School with great ideals and even bigger dreams. Those big dreams took him to Norfolk State University (NSU), where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, and eventually, he went on to achieve a Master’s Degree from Liberty University. His academic accomplishments were a testament to his determination and passion for learning.
While at NSU, Tim worked at the school bookstore, where he made shopping a fun experience for everyone he met. Tim made many lifelong friends while at NSU; however, the best friendship started when he met LaChanda Ashton. Timothy and Lachanda built a friendship that eventually turned to love and on May 25, 2013, they chose each other as life partners and began an amazing journey. During this time, Timothy joined St. Paul AME, where he was a member of the Trustee Board.
Timothy will be remembered for his kind heart, his commitment to his loved ones, and his unwavering perseverance. He leaves behind a legacy of love and achievement that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Cherishing his memory are his beloved wife, LaChanda and son Alan Jerome; his mothers, Arnita Bonner Evans and Linda Richardson Bennett; his mothers-in-law, Dorothy Elmore (Floyd) and Debra White; his Grandparents, Barbara Todd, Jacqueline Buford, Esther White, and Willie White, Sr. (Brenda); and his Siblings, LaChan Spruill (Warwick), Redonna Richardson, Keonna Randolph (Aaron), Nathaniel Bennett, Jr., Shavonna Flucas (Joseph), Jadon and Morgan Evans. Sisters-in-law Tiffani White (Raquan) and Alexis Boone (Maurice) and brothers-in-law Steve Hibbert and Anthony Ashton. A host of other relatives and friends.
Timothy was preceded in death by his father, Nathaniel Bennett, Sr., and his Father-in-law, Alan White.
Timothy’s life will be celebrated.

August 1, 2024 at 6:50 pmTo the Bennett Family,
Tim was a good man. I met him in college 18 years ago.
My man from Norfolk State University. I was sad to hear this. I was so surprised about this. We were just talking about you myself and another friend two weeks ago and now this happens to the family. May God continue to heal and bless you during this time of bereavement.
