Timothy A. Branch

Sunrise: December 8, 1954

Sunset: July 21, 2021

Timothy Alfonzo Branch, devoted husband, father, and brother departed this life to be with the Lord on July 21, 2021.  His transition was nestled in love with the presence of his wife, Laverne, children, and other family members by his side. A native of Portsmouth, VA, Timothy was born to the late Byrdell and Bradford Branch, Sr. on December 8, 1954.

“Tim B”, as he was often called, began his Christian journey at the Third Baptist Church (Portsmouth, VA) under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. C. H. Jordan and was educated in the Portsmouth Public Schools. While a student at Riddick-Weaver Elementary School, he performed with the school choir and served as a safety patrol.  Tim’s high school years were spent at the I.C. Norcom High School, and it was there where he developed significant interest and became notably skilled in mathematics. Upon his graduation from Norcom in 1973, he explored several vocational and educational interests. As a matter of fact, Tim was a popular disc jockey at one point while working as an overnight host on WRAP radio. Even up until his retirement in 2016, Tim’s dedication and work ethic remained impeccable as evidenced by a long-standing 40+ year career with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Additionally, he continued his educational pursuits and achieved post-secondary education status by obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Tidewater Community College.

Above all his professional and educational accomplishments, Tim also exerted significant effort towards developing and strengthening social and family relationships; his devotion to his wife, children and siblings was unmatched. The impact his life had in the lives of his loved ones has truly left a legacy and created memories to be cherished for a lifetime. In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his siblings Joseph Branch, Bradford Branch, Jr., Joanna Thomas, and Barbara B. Wright.  The legacy of his love is left behind to his wife of 25 years, Laverne; a son, Jeron Branch Sr. (Tynesha) of Fairfield, CA; a daughter, Kiera Branch of Chesapeake, VA; two “bonus” daughters gifted through marriage, Tawanna Boone (Ronald) of Portsmouth, VA and Lavonna Felton of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Dr. Curtis Branch of Hackensack, NJ; two sisters, Madeline Dawson and Sandra Tynes (both of Portsmouth, VA); sister-in-laws Lessie Leary, Karen Reeves (Phillip), Vivian Chisholm, Lisa Copeland, and Jean Branch; two brother-in-laws, Willis Felton, Jr. (Edwina) and Steven Felton as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

To the family, please accept my deepest condolences in the loss of your dear loved one, Timothy Branch. I pray that God will give you the strength that you need during this difficult time. We were next-door neighbors in Ahoy Acres. Tim was/is fondly known as Papa Tim to my now-adult children. Tim was a very quiet and kind neighbor. Lavern, Kiera, and Jeron, please know that I am thinking and praying for you. Death brings heartaches, tears, and a kind of pain that is indescribable. I pray that our God who sits high and watches over you will comfort you during this difficult time. I extend my love to the family.
Lift your eyes to the hills, whence cometh your help. All your help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1
