On Saturday, March 8, 2025, Theodore Aursby took wings of the morning and flew away to be at rest. Although our hearts are heavy, we can still smile remembering you, your laugh, your voice, and your presence. Theodore Aursby was born on May 20, 1950, in Halifax NC to the late Fred and Julia Aursby and raised in Philadelphia. There he would finish his schooling before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force where he was a dedicated patriot and served his country honorably during the Vietnam War delivering supplies to troops. We are honored by his bravery and dedication during this mission.
After leaving the Air Force, Theodore went on to lead a fulfilling civilian life in Philadelphia working for Gray Hound. There he began his career driving buses and married the late Maidye Simmons Aursby. Together they conceived the late Tameka Aursby. Around 1983 he moved to Virginia where started a job working for the state before leaving and starting his career as a contractor who specialized in electrical work. It’s not a day that would go by that he didn’t wear his favorite tool belt. He loved working with his hands. It was a passion that was noticed through his work. Here he met his life partner Clara Hale. Together they have two girls Annette Hale and Mary Hale, and four boys Felton Hale, Richard Hale, Junious Hale, and Micheal Hale and he has over 20 grandchildren.
His life was marked by his selflessness, integrity, and strong sense of duty. He was a beloved son, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. He was known for his great sense of humor, great dance moves, wild stories, generosity, and kindness. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by five sisters Willie Mae Davis, Nanie Shabazz, Carraldene Robinson (Curtis), Lillie Hughes, and Corrine Gibson, and two brothers Carey Aursby (Janet), and Larry Chappell (Cynthia). A special Great Great Aunt Eunice Garris Uncle Wilkins Pittman and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by three brothers Fred Aursby (Gloria), Charles Chappell, and Gomez Chappell. One sister Mary Reed. Two aunts Lillian Henderson, and Odessa Morrow, and one Uncle Theodore Pittman.
Life is but a vapor, in this veil of tears. Some of us live in the moment, others live for years.
Therefore we will always love and remember you.
