Theodore Roosevelt Stephenson, Sr. “Pooney”, was born September 2, 1937 in South Hampton County, Virginia. He was the beloved son of the late Roger Lee Stephenson and Annie Virginia (Porter) Deering. Our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather was called to his final resting place on Saturday, June 1, 2019. He received his education in the South Hampton County Public School System. He was employed at Furniture World in Norfolk and retired from Norfolk Ship Building and Dry Dock (BAE Systems) as a pipe fitter.
He was a member of Oakwood Chapel Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ. He was pre-deceased but now reunited in glory with his parents, daughter, Paula Michelle Hill and son, Deshawn Stephenson, brothers, Charles Stephenson, William Stephenson, George Stephenson, Morris Stephenson, and Floyd Deering; sisters, Elnora Davis and Wanda Deering. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ruby Smith Stephenson; his first wife, Beulah Mae Stephenson; son Theodore R. Stephenson, Jr. (Pam); his daughters Jo Ann Watson (Randy), Dorothea law, Joseph Hill, Sr.; his sisters, Virginia Haywood, Ernestine James, Mary Mclean Doman (Don), and Barbara Richardson; his brothers, Richard Deering and Lloyd Deering; aunts, Ella Mae Joyner, Doris Fleetwood, and Jeanette Bell; one uncle, William Porter (Josie); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; special cousin Mark Ely and other relatives and friends. Roosevelt will surely be missed as he was always willing to help family and friends with any home improvement and automotive repairs. He also enjoyed taking care of the neighborhood cats. His sense of humor is unforgettable, he always had a great joke to share. He loved to walk around and sing, and make everyone laugh. His smile will be missed dearly. Our family will keep him in our hearts
