Thelma D. Holley, 74, entered into the glory of the Lord peacefully Friday, July 6, 2018 at Sentara Norfolk Hospital surrounded by her loving children. She was born October 4, 1943 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Andrew and Bernice Privott. The eldest of 9 children, Thelma accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. Mother Thelma received her formal education through the Norfolk Public School System. She loved spending time with her family and carried a deep love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She instilled in them the fear of the Lord and passed down to them the love of family and the Lord.
She was active in her community of Tidewater Park and was loved by the many residents who knew her as Ms. Thelma, “The Lady on the Porch”. She always gave encouraging words and nice warm hugs and loved to read. She was also bright and compassionate. She had a deep love for writing poems on many occasions to lift others and secret letters of love to her children.
Mother Thelma was a faithful member of The Breaking of Day Ministries Church, Norfolk where she served as an honorary usher and missionary. Mother Thelma worked dutifully to provide for her family. Not only did she work tirelessly for her family, but she worked even more diligently for the church. She faithfully attended church when her health permitted. You could always hear her motherly loud voice said, “Preach Son”. Her sisters and brothers were the jewels of her eyes. As the elder sister her loyalty to her sisters and brother was unmatched. She loved her Price is Right and Family Feud. Most of all, she loved her children and often said “Don’t mess with my children”. Our Mom will be truly missed by many.
She leaves to cherish fond memories with her; her two daughters – Wanda D. Mann (Antonio), Chesapeake, and Sharonda L. Sivells, Norfolk; five sons – Anthony R. Privott, Sr. (Gloria) Norfolk, Felix J. Sivells III (Florence), Portsmouth, Melvin E. Sivells, Norfolk, Edward L. Sivells Sr. (Sharon), Chesapeake, and Kevin L. Sivells (Tammy), Connecticut; twenty grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Felicia Sivells, husband Lee W. Holley, three sisters – Antionette C. Baker, Carolyn A. Privott and Gracie E. White and three brothers – Vernon Privott, Andrew H. Privott Jr. and Anthony L. Privott.
