Teresa Michelle Williams was born in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Willie Eli King and Gladys Beatrice King. Teresa made her peaceful transition to heavenly rest on Christmas Day, December 25, 2020, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Teresa was passionate about serving others and pursued a nursing curriculum from Tidewater Community College upon graduating from Granby High School. For over 20 years, Teresa served as a private duty nurse with various home health providers. For an additional 15 years, she served as a foster parent with the Barry Robinson Center and the Norfolk Department of Human Services. She also thrived in leadership roles by demonstrating an impeccable hard work ethic and entrepreneurial mindset, often managing multiple jobs, businesses, and responsibilities simultaneously. When she was not working, you could easily find her shopping and traveling.
A woman of faith, she was a dedicated member of Monument of Joy Church in Norfolk, Virginia. Teresa was committed to her ushering duties, developing vast relationships in the community, and encouraging others to remain steadfast through life’s challenges and to forgive. When asked about her favorite scripture, she readily answered Psalm 91, the King family scripture she memorized from her childhood.
Teresa was fiercely in love with her family. She never turned down the opportunity to host or attend a King family gathering. Forever a social butterfly, Teresa loved being at events where there was good food, good company, good music, and plenty of room for dancing. She didn’t need a reason to celebrate; she simply wanted everyone to be joyful, love life, and have a good time.
Teresa is the cherished wife of Corethious Williams, devoted mother of children, LaTersa Chatman, Richard Mitchell, Jr. (Erica) and Aaron Mitchell (Angie); and beloved grandmother of grandsons Juwan Bryant and Christopher Foxworth, Jr. She is the dear sister of Catherine Weaver, Jacob King (Deborah), Wilhelmina Armstead (Don), Jacqueline Hamlett (Josh), and Ricky King, Sr. (Michelle). Teresa’s vibrant personality will be sorely missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and members of the community. She is preceded in death by her sister Sheila Butts.
