Tamia was born into this world fearless, but yet, so full of life and love. MiMi, at two years old, wasn’t scared of Sh*!t (in Bernie Mac’s Voice). The Berkley hardhead and Hough hooligan transitioned into a young lady in her new  neighborhood, Ingleside, where she went to Lake Taylor Middle School and was an outstanding member of Track and Field. MiMi received multiple accolades. She was also a cheerleader. MiMi, later took her talents to Booker T. Washington High School, where she excelled in JROTC, she even received an award for the BLT program. MiMi only played one basketball game with the Bookers, but her heart and determination got her an invitation to play for the next year. Before graduating high school, MiMi became a crew member for McDonalds franchise, then after graduating, MiMi continued to work for McDonalds.

MiMi was predeceased by her father, Thomas W. Benton; brother, Quincy D. Benton; grandfathers, Howard W. Hopkins, Jr. and John Benton Sr.; grandmothers, Carolyn A. Hopkins and Mary V. Scott Benton; uncle, John Benton, Jr; great aunt, Beverly D. Hassell; great grandmother, Evelyn Hassell and great grandfather Robert Hassell, Jr. MiMi is survived by her mother, Evelyn “Lisa” Hopkins; three brothers, Kelvin Beasley of Georgia, Thomas Palmer of Portsmouth and Eric Hopkins (Cierra) of Chesapeake, VA. Four sisters, Tamara Wilkerson of Washington, DC, Mary Stone (James) of Georgia, Ebony Woodard of Norfolk, VA and Carolyn Hopkins of Chesapeake, VA; Paternal grandmother, Minnie D. Simmons; one aunt, Lydia Diane Hopkins; of Norfolk, VA, two uncles, Steven Hopkins (Tamia) of Suffolk, VA, Robert Chris Hopkins (Sarah) of Norfolk, VA; cousins, Steven Hopkins, Jr, Calvin Powell, Takardi Brooks, Jasmine Hopkins, Christina Hull, John McInnis, Mark Gibbs, Doris and Tucker Taylor, Patricia Butts, Robert Rivers, Deloris Bryant and Pamela Benton; six nephews, Shon Jones, Kelvin Beasley, Jr, Christian Wilkerson, Quinterick Woodard, Kejon Marshall and Quincy Day; Eight nieces, ZyAsia Sweat, Quinae Woodard, Akira Palmer, Karmen Palmer, Kymanni King, Kamrynn Palmer, Kaidynx Hopkins and Xolani Hopkins; and a host of relatives and friends.

I have scars my father healed. I have memories, my father made happen I am an image my father created. I’ll be a legend that my father believed …….

This wasn’t right baby…May the Lord give u eternal peace Mimi… Watch over us like we know you will because you was overprotective of your family.     I want to extend my heart felt condolences to the family. I use to look forward to seeing Tamia come into the clinic here at MT Curry peds. She always made me laugh at some of the things she would say to me when I saw her. Tamia was one of my favorite kids here and I am truly going to miss her.
