Sylvia Regina Mosley

Sunrise: February 4, 1955

Sunset: August 9, 2020

On Sunday, August 9, 2020 at 12:09 a.m., Sylvia Regina Powell Mosley looked towards heaven and made her transition home to be with her Heavenly Father. A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, Sylvia was the last child born to the late Wyatt and Maggie Powell on February 4, 1955. Her family and friends affectionately called her “Sylvie”. She was a nurturing hugger and an amazing singer. She received her education from Portsmouth Public Schools. She worked as a hostess for many years at Morrison’s Restaurant and later at the Sheraton Hotel. Sylvia could make you smile, laugh, and dance with her genuine and unique style of love.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Glenn Mosley; Brother Henry Lee Powell (Boodie); her sisters, Mageline David (Lady), Bessie Carey and Irene Mills; her nephews, Edmond David Jr., Anthony Puckett, Shaheem Bates, Correy David, and Tyrone Powell; her niece, Cynlethia Connor (Cookie) and Aunt, Elzena Parker. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving daughter Cierra Powell and son Jamal Powell, of Norfolk, VA. Her grandchildren; Montrael, Kielin, Cherish, Zhavia, Jamar, and Cameron. Four sisters Dorothy Mae Mitchell, Maxine Wilkins, Sherlene Carter (Khallid), and Gloria
Webster of Portsmouth, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. A special great-nephew Rashadeen (Ahkey) Connor.

God saw that the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb, so he gently closed her weary eyes and whispered “Peace be Thine.” We love and miss you, but know that you will always be in our hearts.

Sorry to learn of Slyvie’s death, sending condolences to Shirlene and the entire Powell and Mosley Family. I’ll remember Slyvie as one of the cutest, petite, and stylish young women when we were all growing up in the Taylorsville community. May She Rest In Eternal Peace.
