Sterling Melvin Freeman, Jr.

Sunrise: November 27, 1965

Sunset: June 28, 2025

With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the peaceful passing of Sterling Melvin Freeman, Jr., affectionately known as “June Bug,” on June 28, 2025. Born on November 27, 1965, June Bug brought light, laughter, and love to all who knew him.

Sterling retired from working in 2017 due to health complications, but his spirit never dimmed. He was known for his infectious smile, quick wit, and ability to bring laughter to any room. His jokes, kindness, and joyful personality left a lasting impression on family, friends, and anyone blessed to cross his path.

Sterling was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Sterling Melvin Freeman, Sr., and Shirley Freeman. Though they are gone, we find peace knowing they are reunited once more.

He was a devoted father, a loving brother and uncle, and a loyal friend. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Ashley Locust, and son, Jason Locust; his sister, Melvina Winder (Greg); and niece, Tarea Freeman, all of Norfolk, Virginia. In addition, he is remembered fondly by a host of family members and friends who will forever hold his memory close.

Sterling was a proud and passionate Dallas Cowboys fan who never missed a chance to show his team spirit. But more than anything, he deeply loved his children and family. His legacy will live on in the stories we share, the laughter he sparked, and the love he gave so freely.

He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
