Stella Louise Brown Haskins transitioned this life and entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 6, 2024. She was born on April 15, 1948, as one of six children to the late Winfield and Rosa Lee Brown. A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, Stella was educated in the local school system and graduated from I. C. Norcom High School, class of 1966. Because of her kind and compassionate nature, Stella pursued a career in the nursing profession. She received a Licensed Practical Nursing Degree (LPN) and devoted herself to serving as a healthcare professional.
Stella was a Community Health Worker/Nurse for the Portsmouth Health Department. She worked and retired from the former Sentara Nursing Home, Greenwood Drive, Portsmouth, VA after more than ten years of dedicated service.
Stella was a lifelong and devoted member of Emanuel AME Church. She served faithfully as a member and past president of the Female Usher Board. She was a member of the Food Ministry, the Churchill-Lee Women’s Missionary Society, the Noon Day Bible Study Group, and the Sunday School.
Stella was a member of the United Order of Tent Chrysanthemum # 480 and an active part of her community. Her passion was being of service to others. She enjoyed arts and ccrafts her favorite was making and displaying flower arrangements.
Stella was married to the love of her life, the late Arnold Haskins. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her youngest sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Joseph Booker, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sisters: Gloria O’Neal (Charles) and Linda Stephens (Gary); two brothers: Earl Brown and Dennis Brown Sr. (Linda); Nieces: Keisha Majette, Taprinia Hester, Chelslea Parker, and Ciara Booker; Nephews: Derrick Majette, Dennis Brown, Jr., Jamal (Duke) Brown, Jwan Stephens, and Terrell Brown. She also leaves a special and loving friend, Michael Pollard.
