Solomon Moore, Jr.

Sunrise: October 8, 1948

Sunset: January 22, 2024

Solomon Moore, Jr. was born in Norfolk, Virginia on October 8, 1948. He was one of seven children born to the late Solomon, Sr. and Ida Simmons Moore. On Monday, January 22, 2024, Solomon entered into eternal rest.

Solomon was affectionately known as “Junie” by loved ones and he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Although he was a “man of few words,” Solomon’s silence was his strength and when he did have something to say, folks listened. Solomon enjoyed yard work, weekly scheduled chats with his siblings, fried crabs, and watching/discussing sports. He was an extremely loyal Redskins fan although he’d be the first to tell people that he didn’t expect much out of the teams’ performance.

After graduating from Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia, Solomon began working at the Virginian Pilot (formally known as the Virginian Pilot Ledger Star) at the age of 19. He was instrumental in developing and working with union representatives to implement a protocol to address discrimination towards graveyard shift employees. Solomon retired in 2008 after 39 years of employment as a machine operator. Shortly before his retirement, Solomon began his janitorial company called Fresh Start Janitorial, LLC in which he was still operating until late 2023.

Solomon was also a long time member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA where he served for many years on the Men’s Usher Board.

Solomon is predeceased by one brother Herbert Carter; and two sisters Betty Moore and Cynthia Moore. Remaining to cherish loving memories and precious moments are his wife: Annie Moore; two sons Brian Moore (Euricka) and Desmond Moore (LaChanda); and one daughter SaFonya Miller (Brady); one brother Larry Moore (Christina); two sisters Barbara Jones and Angelyn Moody; eight grandchildren Marquis, Brianna, Jayla, Cameron, Devin, Kelis, Braylon and Bria; nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
