Solomon Aaron Johnson, Sr. was born December 15, 1958 to the late Daisey Webb-Santos and Samuel Johnson in Norfolk, Virginia. He peacefully departed this life on July 16, 2019 with his family at his side.
Solomon was joined in marriage to Marieta Tillman, from this union they were blessed with twins, Solomon Aaron Jr. and Shannon Arnelle. He was a dedicated father and loving husband. He was committed in preparing his son and daughter for life through education and life skills. He had a very witty sense of humor and an infectious smile…to know him was to love him.
Solomon was preceded in death by his sister, Maxine Forrest. He leaves to cherish in his loving memory his sisters, Antonio (Nathaniel) and Lolita Watson (William) and a host of nieces, nephews and many other caring relatives and friends, including devoted friend, Karen Boyd.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone for all expressions of kindness shown to the family during this time of bereavement. Your thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.
We’d also like to give special thanks to the Gentlemen of Esquire XIII Fraternity, Inc., the Sisters of Vogue Sorority and the Ladies of Essence of Esquire. Lastly, we are forever grateful to our friend Mr. Bernard Lundy, to Alisha and the staff at Metropolitan Funeral Services for personal touch and professionalism.
May God Bless You.

July 17, 2019 at 8:29 pmVSU brought us together but family love kept us together.
First the family love of essence of esquire and later continued family love through the union of Marieta, Aaron and Arnelle. Sol was funny and pleasant all the time. I can’t recall ever being in his presence and not laughing hard. I suspect the angels are giggling right now. Rest in
Peace dear brother. We will miss you. To the family, find comfort in knowing that absent from the body but present with the lord. We love you.

July 18, 2019 at 1:13 pmOur hearts and prayers goes out to the family during their time of sorrow. We will miss Mr. Solomon Johnson, Sr as our family member at Independence Middle School. Not a day goes by that he didn’t put a smile on our faces and made sure we all were safe. He was definitely a man of God. The day of his passing the sounds of thunder from the heavens welcomed him home into the gates of heaven, and the Sun shined bright afterwards to state that is was welcomed home to glory. Rest in peace my brother, and we will all meet again.

July 18, 2019 at 8:36 pmMy love and prayers go to Solomon, Jr. and Shannon and your extended families. I just couldn’t believe that my partner in education has gone to Glory. We had so much fun at The George School in Hanover, VA. It was a class act. Mr. Johnson was a great model of a man to the young Black boys at school. He exemplified what a gentleman and scholar is to be like. He encouraged young people and co-workers such as myself to believe in ourselves and excel. I loved Mr. Johnson like a brother and it’s difficult to know he’s not here physically. My family (Quashes) were crazy about him and will miss his quick wit. We love you, we’re praying God’s presence will heal and comfort you all during this transitional period of your lives. God Bless You.

July 18, 2019 at 10:30 pmMr. Johnson imparted a lot of wisdom on to the students at Independence, but also on to his coworkers. He always told me to take drives and enjoy life while I’m young, so I’m going to do just that. Thank you for everything. Love and peace for your family in this dark time.

July 19, 2019 at 9:19 amCondolences to the family of Solomon Johnson, Sr.
Mr. Johnson exemplified what love is. He gave the best of himself to serve and encourage everyone around him. As co-workers in the Dept. of Juvenile Justice and in The Georgetown School of Alternative Education, Mr. Johnson was the voice of reason and the pivotal face of admiration. My friend, my buddy, my brother, Solomon, Sr. blessed us all; God is surely pleased. Mr. Johnson will truly be missed, and will forever live in the hearts of the Robinson Family: Simon, Gale and Candice.
Much love and peace to Shannon and Solomon, Jr.

July 19, 2019 at 2:06 pmSolomon was such a kind, caring and amazing person. He will be missed by all of us at IMS who considered him a true gentleman. His sense of humor is one of the things I will miss along with his friendship. The thought of IMS without you there, leaves a huge hole in my heart, but I know you are up in heaven with all the other amazing people enjoying a british joke or two and watching all of us in this difficult time. I will miss all of our laughter about the british jokes and TV shows you watched when you were over there. Enjoy a “cup of tea” Solomon and one day we will meet again.
Trish Brown (The Crazy British Lady).
