Sidney Erving Allen

Sunrise: August 26, 1955

Sunset: May 20, 2018

Sidney Erving Allen, 62, peacefully transitioned to be with the lord on May 20, 2018. He was born August 26, 1955 to Emma Allen and the late Sidney Blanchard. His parents were later married in October that same year. He was predeceased by his oldest sister, Linda Jordan, and three brothers, James Ely Blanchard and twins. He also was predeceased by his three uncles, six aunts, and one nephew, Mario Jordan.

Sidney was a native of Chesapeake, Virginia. He graduated from Indian River High School in 1974. He then joined the United States Air Force, completing 4 years, and was honorably discharged as a Sargent in 1978. He worked at Ecolkem for 2 years, while attending classes at ECPI for Electrician. He was employed with the City of Chesapeake in the Water Treatment Plant for 26 years. He received many certificates. Sidney was better known to most by his nickname “Dowicka” or “Wick”. He was an awesome father, uncle, cousin, friend, son and brother. He had a very strong- willed personality out spoken, opinionated, and brutally honest. Sidney was family oriented, and had a kind heart, if ever needed he was there, family reunions, gatherings and so forth. Now all who knew him truly knew that he was a great debater, especially when it came to sports most of all football and “no matter what yall say black and yellow rank best.” Go “Steelers” he was a diehard fan. His daughter will truly miss him reading the newspaper in the morning, drinking his coffee, while watching western channels, fussing and cursing at
what he was watching. In his younger years he loved to get up early and go play basketball with his friends and later that evening or on weekends play horse shoes.

Sidney leaves to mourn in his loss his mother, Emma Blanchard of Chesapeake, VA; his son, Miquawn Williams (Seqouia) of Norfolk, VA; his daughter Nadia Copeland (Earl); four brothers; Bruce Blanchard (Maxine), Anthony Perry (Sharon), Samuel Blanchard, and Lester Richardson. Two sisters; Cynthia Riddick, Patty Gilchrist, all of Chesapeake, VA. He also leaves behind five uncles: George, Norman, Larry, Johnnie, Micheal Blanchard. Three Aunts: Helen Smith, Diane Bell, and Veronica Godfrey. His two best friends; Wilson Downing, and Herbert Watson. Three grandsons, Daniel Aaron, Tyreke Riddick, and Sequan Jones. We will always cherish the memories and stories that he has left with us all. His unselfishness, protection, dependability, and love. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews whom he kept close. He leaves also a host of friends, family and his great air force buddy, Lowell Hill of Georgia.

I love you, always and forever Daddy.
