July 3, 2020 at 4:39 amOur deepest condolences to the Byrd and Bates family (Shonda Byrd-Bates), especially to her husband,
Anthony Bates, Jr. (Sons)
Anthony Bates III and Khalil Antoine,
(Parents) Mr.and Mrs. Jimmie Byrd, Sr.
In-Laws Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Bates,Sr.
Siblings Torri Byrd-Penn (Joseph),
Tina Byrd-Miller, Jimmie Byrd,Jr. Edmond Byrd and Jimia Bullard (Cory).
After a lifetime of my Cousin Shonda Byrd-Bates friendship and sisterhood, I will truly miss her for so many things, but a few I will mention: three to four hour telephone conversations weekly, preaching the scriptures of the Bible, singing gospels songs, reading books together, laughing, crying tears of joy, sharing pictures, talking politics and two of her FAVORITE topics were her son Khalil and husband Anthony. Anthony was the love of Shonda’s life and he meant so much to her. They both had agreed to wait to marry until her son Khalil graduated from high school before uniting as one. However, Anthony and Shonda stayed committed to their relationship and worshipped the Lord together for five years. Finally, in the fall of 2019 Shonda and Anthony tied the knot as husband and wife, after which she relocated to Chesapeake, Virginia. She enjoyed spending time worshipping the Lord, singing, watching movies and cooking with stepson Anthony III and Anthony during her spare time.
We appreciate you Anthony Bates, Jr., family, friends and loved ones who gave her love, happiness and peace. God Bless You.
Shonda was so elated and proud of Khalil who graduated with honors and was inducted into the National Honor Society at North High School in 2018. Then, Khalil received a full academic scholarship and is attending the University of Nebraska Omaha Majoring in Biology and has been on the Dean’s List. Shonda at times would start laughing and chuckling about how Khalil loved computers, calculators, mathematics, science equipment and would beg to go to school at two years old. She said, “My Son Is So Intelligent He Is Going to Run The World”.
To my Aunt and Uncle (Parents),
Mr. and Mrs.Jimmie Byrd, Sr.:
You have been amazing, loving, dedicated and compassionate parents to Shonda Latrice Byrd-Bates. She was introduced and raised in the Church by your guidance and active participant in the church and as Former Pastor and First Lady of the Church of the Living God in Omaha, Nebraska. You both were role models and she loved you so very much and always wanted to make you proud. Let the Lord be with you Aunt Brenda and Uncle Jimmie during this difficult time. Now Shonda is safe in the arms of the Lord and the Golden Gates of Heaven.
To her siblings Torri, Tina, Edmond, Jimmia and Jimmie, Jr. Thank you for sharing your beautiful, intelligent and amazing sister Shonda Latrice Byrd-Bates. She will surely be missed by many, but never forgotten. God Bless You, Family.
Love you, Shonda aka “Mrs.Virginia”
Much love, Cousin Glenn Burt, Fawnda Chakolis-Burt, Jasmine Burt and Janessa Burt
