Mrs. Shirley Davis, was the real Queen of her family! Mrs. Shirley Davis, was born on August 26, 1945, to the late, Mr. William M. and Mrs. Esser Mae Jones, in the city of Portsmouth, Virginia. She rode out her storm straight into heaven on December 13, 2019 and gained her wings. Mrs. Shirley Davis, was educated within the Portsmouth city school system and lived out her life here in the city with her husband of fifty-eight years, Mr. Junius Lee Davis Sr.
Mrs. Davis, was predeceased by her Father: Mr. William M. Davis, Mother: Mrs. Esser Mae Jones. A son, Junius Lee Davis Jr., four brothers, Raymond Lee Jones Alfred Jones, Leroy Jones and Rudolph Jones. “Ms. Shirley,” as she was affectionally called, was such an attentive, nurturing, loving, caring, wife, mother, grandmother and person. Ms. Shirley, was a stay at home mother who helped to raise her grandchildren and even some of the neighborhood children, after she retired in 1995. Ms. Shirley was a family-oriented person and no matter what was going on in life, she always wanted her family to stay connected and remain “close knitted” together. Ms. Shirley was one person who has always wanted only the best for her family simply because,she loved them. She was wise beyond her years, the things that warmed her heart besides her family, was watching baseball and softball games on her flat screen television.
She loved to play bingo, doing her crossword puzzles, dancing, her hats and sunglasses. Shirley loved a good conversation and talking on the phone. Let’s not forget that she loved to watch her soap operas and her game shows were indeed a must see. Shirley loved everybody her and her cousins residing in Philadelphia were more like sisters and brothers. Shirley, was the type of person who would open her home to anyone in need and even literally give someone the shirt off of her own back. She was a friend to a host of many people, in fact too many to provide names here. She was a genuinely great person. Ms. Shirley, was a true, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend and just a “living light” of kindness in the community and a genuine real friend who will truly be missed.
Let’s just suffice it and say, that the precious memories of Mrs. Shirley Davis and her footprints through life here on earth will forever be loved, cherished and immortalized within the hearts and minds of those who dearly loved her. She leaves behind to morn, her death, her loving husband of 58 years and the love of her life, together until her very last breath, Mr. Junius Lee Davis Sr. Their loving four children, Shirley A. Windley, Jerome, Davis, Jerry Davis, Latoya Davis (She affectionately called “Mama”) and Mary Beale. Also, Denise Davis (Wife of Davis Jr.). Loving grandchildren: Bryan Windley, Janelle Beale, Jarmarte Davis, Javonte Davis, and a host of additional grandchildren, great grandchildren extended family members and friends.
