Shirley Lee Yates was born in Norfolk, Virginia to Elsie Simons and Henry Brown on February 22, 1939 and passed away on September 25, 2019 in Norfolk, Virginia. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to Jehovah in 1972. Shirley enjoyed declaring the good news of the Kingdom to all she met. She was a faithful servant of Jehovah who loved and cared for all of her brothers and sisters of the congregation. In her early years, she spent time out in the field service and enjoyed traveling with her husband. Shirley was a voice for the community who fought for what she believed was right. In the 1970’s, Shirley travelled to Washington D.C. to fight for the passing of the Federal Racketeering Law, protecting citizens from corrupt organizations.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph B. Yates and son Tracy L. Yates. She leaves to cherish, her children Sheila West, Linda Owens, Angela Lindsey, Joseph (Wife) Yates, Ella (Husband) Dupree, Anthony Yates and Shirley Yates, 23 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a very special Aunt Dorthy Bagby.
Shirley was adored by many; she had a smile that brightened up your heart, but if she had to put her foot down, she would in a loving way. She will truly be missed. We love you momma and will be with you in the new world.

We don’t always know what to say at a time like this, except we love you. We can’t understand exactly how you feel, but Jehovah does and will keep raising you up. We hope that our prayers will help a little.May Jehovah sustain you at this time of such great loss.
