Sherman W. Babbs

Sherman William Babbs Sr. was born July 15th, 1934 and departed this life August 14th, 2020.  He was born in Springfield Tennessee to Alice Scott and Charlie Babbs.  His younger sister, Mary Lavone Woodard preceded him in death as an infant.  Soon after, the family moved to Nashville Tennessee.  Growing up Sherman had a passion for boxing.  And later, as a young man, he answered the call of his country and in-listed in the Navy, proudly serving for 22 years during which time he completed 2 tours in Vietnam.
After retiring from active duty, Sherman continued serving by working at the Navy Shipyard.  From there he worked at the Kern Library before transferring to the MacArthur Memorial where he finally retired.
He was a devoted husband to Doris L. Babbs.  Together they shared 56 years of marriage.  Sherman was the father of 4 children, Teresa Woodard who preceded him in death, Sherman Babbs, Jr. (Laura), Preston Babbs (Tammy) and Robin Babbs (Kyle).  He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Sherman Babbs, III, La’ Sheema   Babbs, Daniel Babbs, Grayson Babbs,  Tyrell Clay and Logan Babbs and a host of nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
Inurnment Monday, September 21, 2020 3:00pm Albert G. Horton Veteran's Cemetery 5310 Milners Road Suffolk, VA 23434 The family is following the CDC and State of Virginia guidelines for funeral attendance

    We are so sorry for your loss. The death of a love one can be extremely difficult to cope with. Many have found comfort in the promise found there at Acts 24:15. There it speaks about the Resurrection. Do draw comfort in the promise found there and please know you and your family will be in our prayers…MaryAnn
