Sunset: December 29, 2023

Shawon Amel Mullings, a beloved native of Norfolk, Virginia, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, December 29, 2023, at the VA Palliative Care Center in Hampton, Virginia, surrounded by his loving family.  Shawon‘s departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Born on March 3, 1993, in Waukegan, Illinois.  Shawon was the cherished son of Shaquana Simmons and Michael Mullings. He brought joy and pride to his family, graduating with honors from Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Virginia.

In August of 2011, Shawon embarked on a journey of service, attending US Army Basic Training at Fort Benning and AIT in Fort Gordon, Georgia. His dedication and commitment led him to serve his country with honor during his first tour of duty in South Korea. Shawon‘s passion for service continued as he was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as part of the prestigious 82nd Airborne Division.

Shawon will forever be remembered with love and admiration by his parents, Shaquana and Michael, who nurtured his dreams and supported him throughout his life. His three beautiful daughters, Jah’zaria Simmons, Mia and Khalia Mullings, were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Shawon‘s siblings, Teryn Mullings and Daiquon Simmons, shared a bond of love and friendship that will endure beyond his physical presence.

The love and guidance Shawon received from his maternal grandparents, Pamela Simmons and Ronald Simmons, and his paternal grandparents, Vahlia Mullings and Trevor Mullings, shaped him into the remarkable person he became. Shawon was blessed with the presence of his uncles and aunts, Milton Parker, Ronald (Stacy) Simmons, Michelle (Nick) Mullings-Peters, Donald (Elenei) Simmons, and Mauricia (Jason) Mullings-DuPont, who provided him with unwavering love and support.

Shawon‘s nephews, Tristen Westerlin, Sy’Miir, and Mahaani Simmons, held a special place in his heart, and he cherished his time with them. He found solace and joy in the companionship of his best friends, Johneka Knox and Kaneisha Small, who were by his side through thick and thin.

Shawon‘s genuine love for his family was evident in every action and word. He found solace and inspiration in music, which touched his soul in ways words could not. As a devoted fan, he supported the Miami Dolphins and the Denver Nuggets, finding joy and camaraderie in following his favorite teams.

Shawon‘s passing is mourned by a host of family and friends who loved him dearly. His infectious laughter, kind-hearted nature, and genuine love left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew him. Shawon will be remembered as a beacon of light, a source of strength, and a cherished soul who brought joy to those around him.

As we say farewell to Shawon Amel Mullings, let us honor his memory by carrying his love, resilience and zest for life within our own hearts. May he find eternal peace and rest, knowing that he will forever be cherished and remembered with profound love.
