Shawn S. Johnson

On Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 9:15pm, the Lord called Shawn home to glory to be with him while at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was 52 years young. Shawn was born on August 3, 1967 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He was the fifth son to Mr. and Mrs. Gerald and Barbara Johnson of Norfolk, VA. He was educated in the Norfolk Public School System and graduated from Maury High School in 1985. Shawn served his Country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy Reserves in 1986. While
enlisted, he acquired and mastered the skill of electrician. With the spirit of entrepreneurship, he started his own electrical business in the Tidewater area, as well as in North Carolina. Shawn also acquired 12 certifications from Tidewater Community College that included Fiber Optics and others in the Electrical Field.Shawn had a true passion for people! He was friendly and funny and would do anything to help anybody. As he matured, Shawn found the need to have a close relationship with the Lord and gave his life to Christ at a young age. He was a member of Cry Out Loud Ministries in Sanford, NC and currently a member of the Living Word Victory Center in Portsmouth, VA. Shawn is predeceased by his brothers, Mr. Maurice Lawton, Mr.
Bernard Lawton, Mr. Eugene Johnson and Mr. Leonard Lawton, as well as, his father Mr. Gerald E. Johnson, Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Mrs. Barbara Johnson of Norfolk, VA; Ms. Monica Saunders of Sanford, NC; five children, Mrs. Kachina Byrd (Jason) of Durham, NC, Ms. Shontele Vines of Norfolk, VA, Mrs. Shantel Johnson (Timothy) of
Virginia Beach, VA, Mr. Troy Saunders of Brooklyn, NY and Mr. Julion Saunders of Detroit, MI; two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Roberson (Will) of Atlanta, GA and Mrs. Terri McCoy (Mac) of Atlanta, GA; his brother, Mr. Chris Johnson (Sheila) of Norfolk, VA; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Nina Verbal of Sanford, NC and brother-in-law, Otis Verbal of Buies Creek, NC. He was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, his favorite aunts, Mrs. Joyce Hawkins of Chesapeake, VA, Ms. Rita Lawton of Norfolk, VA, his uncles, Mr. William Lawton (Beverly) of Chesapeake, VA and Mr. Sherman Lawton (Brenda) of Norfolk, VA.
Shawn has a huge host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends that love him and will also truly miss him.
