Shannon James Moreland, 57, passed away on June 6th, 2025, in Clearwater, Florida. Shannon was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on December 1st, 1967. Shannon lived a life full of hard work, passion, and deep devotion to his family.
A dedicated and skilled contractor, Shannon took pride in being a master of all trades. Whether building, fixing, or improving, he gave everything his full effort and heart. He was known for his positive spirit, always seeing the glass half full even when life threw its toughest challenges.
Shannon had a deep love for a perfectly cooked steak — three minutes on one side, 3 minutes on the other — washed down with an ice-cold Bud Light and finished off with old-fashioned cake and ice cream. Self-proclaimed sunset photographer, he never let a good one go to waste. He also proudly claimed the title of “best crabber you knew,” even when the pot came up empty; that’s just the optimism in him. More than anything, he was a devoted grandfather who would do anything for his babies.
He was predeceased by his beloved mother Mary Morton, father Major James & stepfather Robert Caines, his son Brian Moreland, and siblings Donna, Tracey, and Bobbie. He is survived by his wife and lifetime friend Kimberly Moreland, children Craig and Brittany Moreland, and his cherished grandchildren Audri, Angel, Paradise, Carter, and Kymbria. He also leaves behind his sisters Karen and Tonda, and his brothers Joseph, Guy, John, Kevin, and Michael.
Shannon will be remembered for his work ethic, his laughter, his stories, his deep, contagious laugh, having the best steak recipe, and the devoted love he had for his family. He will be missed beyond words.
An optional fellowship repast will be held at Mona Lisa’s Pizza on Military Highway, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and the joy he brought to those around him. The Moreland family would like to send their deepest appreciation for all the love and comfort sent during this difficult time.
