Shane Michael August, age 39, of Chesapeake, VA, entered eternal rest on Sunday, April 20, 2025. He was born on September 29th, 1985, in New Orleans, LA, the beloved son of Wanda White and Rudolph L. August, Jr. Shane loved spending time with his better half, Lenore, and their beautiful daughter, Milan. He often referred to their trio as his “perfect little family”. Family was very important to Shane; he loved to talk sports with his dad and Uncle Chris. He also enjoyed both healthy and some may say “unhealthy” sports-related debates with his former teammates from Norfolk State and with friends he met along his way.
Shane really enjoyed his trips home to New Orleans, especially during Thanksgiving and Mardi Gras, and he made sure we upheld the family tradition of going to the French Quarter to eat beignets. He also upheld the tradition of eating everyone’s leftovers after finishing two orders of his own.
Shane had a rare gift for making others laugh and smile. Deep down, he was a jovial, competitive kid at heart, living in the body of a grown man who never missed a chance to dress with style. He had a particular fondness for sophisticated, perfectly tailored suits—many of which came from one of his favorite shops, Details on Granby Street.
Shane’s entrepreneurial spirit made him a huge presence in the Norfolk and Chesapeake business communities. In 2021, he partnered with Lenore, Carl Edmonds, and his father, Rudy, to launch the Aspire Treatment and Recovery Center of Virginia—the first Black-owned methadone treatment facility in the state. Shane’s vision, combined with the team’s effective execution of their business plan, ultimately led to the successful sale of the company to the nationally recognized treatment provider, BrightView.
Shane had the ability to pull together resources and the right people to create impactful, purpose-driven ventures. Among his many accomplishments were Commonwealth First Home healthcare, Handle 19, and most recently, The Restore Dental Center of Hampton Roads—a practice focused on serving the underserved.
Shane was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.
Shane leaves to cherish his memories, his better half, Lenore, and daughter Milan, mother, Wanda White, father, Rudolph L. August, Jr. (Darlene), sister, Ciji Mitchell (Delwyn), and brother, Kevin Wilson. He was welcomed at the Gates of Heaven by his grandparents, Rudolph L. August, Sr, and Mr. and Mrs. William White. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts, other family members, and many, many friends.

April 24, 2025 at 8:35 pmFamily,
When the Lord called Shane home, he left a gift of memories in exchange. Like old movies, stories are being told by those of us facing this loss. “Remember when?’ We pray and cry, interrupting one another in retelling of time shared with Shane. Thank you, Lord, for adding the gift of memory to our days ahead and helping us to “remember when”. Rest Shane, you’ve earned your Crown!
Love always, Cousins from NOLA (Phil, Sr., Stephanie a& Phil, Jr.)
