On Saturday, December 28, 2024, Sarah Lavon Taylor entered into eternal rest peacefully. She was born on August 24, 1955, to the late Elbert Earl and Carrie Victoria Taylor.

Sarah attended W.H. Robinson School and C.M. Epps High School. She worked on the farm alongside her parents after completing school. She later found her career in cooking and cleaning. Sarah worked for Norfolk Public Schools in Norfolk, VA in 1980. She worked there until her mother’s health began to fail. Later she began working with Pitt County Schools in 1989 and she was there until her health began to fail.

Sarah joined Bethel Chapel in Washington, NC, under Pastor Steve Davis. She was ordained in 2016 as a “Mother.” She wore that title well physically and spiritually. She was a faithful member. Sarah was always smiling and willing to help anywhere she could.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Elbert Earl Taylor, a sister-in-law, Doris Taylor, maternal grandmother, Rosa Sheppard, maternal grandfather, Matthew Sheppard, paternal grandmother, Almeeta Taylor, and paternal grandfather, Bill Raspberry.

She leaves five daughters, Alberta Taylor of Greenville, NC, Felicia Acree (Dan) of Norfolk, VA, Lytisha Blow of Greenville, NC, Lakeisha King (Marcel) of Asheboro, NC, and Alma Acree of Norfolk, VA, one son, Brad Taylor of Norfolk, VA, four sisters, Vivian Graham of Greenville, NC, Glenda Speller of Farmville, NC, Vivian Freeman of Grimesland, NC, and Billie DeMary (Julius) of Norfolk, VA, eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, uncles, cousins, and friends. Sarah also had an adopted daughter named Monica Gorham.
