Sarah Deloris Harrison

Sunrise: January 23, 1948

Sunset: January 16, 2024

Sarah Deloris Harrison loved her family with all her heart. Her heart’s desire was to always be surrounded by family and she spent her life doing just that. Early Tuesday morning, January 16, 2024 the Lord saw fit to call his precious angel, Sarah Deloris Harrison, home to be with Him, she was 75 years young. Born January 23, 1948 in Norfolk, Virginia, Sarah was the daughter of the late Melvin Sr., and Dorothy Harrison and the mother of three sons, George Harrison, Maceo Harrison and the late Rodney Harrison. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Rodney Harrison and brothers, Melvin Harrison, Jr. and Bobby Harrison. “Sparrow” as she was affectionately called, was educated in the Norfolk Public School System and retired from Personal-Touch Home Health Care. She loved her children individually and unconditionally with all her heart. Often times, she would be heard talking about “her boys” and all of their accomplishments. Momma often found a way to incorporate herself in every part of her children’s lives. She was a true professional in mothering and guiding her children and encouraged them to live a life that was pleasing in the sight of God. Sarah was chosen by God with a purpose to love others and this showed every day. Sarah was a faithful member of Garden of Prayer Temple Zion City. Sparrow loved her grandchildren dearly and both of them played a very special part in her life from the moment each of them were born. Our precious mother loved to cook and ensured everyone around her received a hot meal each and every day. Every Sunday at our home felt like Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. This love was felt by all those she came in contact with. Left to cherish her precious memories are two devoted sons, George Harrison and Maceo Harrison, Sr.; two grandchildren, Maceo Harrison, Jr. and Myiah Harrison; four brothers, Lonnie Cherry, Wayne Nichols, Daniel Harrison and Sherman Harrison; sister-in-law, Cutrice Ferebee; her nephew whom she raised as her own, Melvin Odom; special cousin, Otelia Cherry; and her two best friends Mary Barks and Shirley Russell whom she has known for over fifty years.
