Sandra Patricia “Fatz” Barron Cartwright

December 4, 1957 ~ April 20, 2020

Sandra Patricia Barron Cartwright affectionately known as “Fatz”, made her royal entrance into this life on December 4, 1957 to the late William E. “Bro” Cartwright and Thelma F. Barron Cartwright. “Fatz”, was the adored baby girl to nine other siblings.  She peacefully and gracefully received her eternal crown Monday April 20, 2020, on the day commemorating the celebration of her beloved departed daddy’s 103rd birthday. Her exodus from this life was the ultimate demonstration that truly defined her as a “daddy’s girl”.

“Fatz”, was born and raised in the Berkley section of Norfolk, Virginia and attended Norfolk Public Schools. As a child she attended St. Mark United Church of Christ under the leadership of the late Dr. D. P. Butts and throughout her life under the late Pastor Thomas J. Hart. She was predeceased by two sisters Bernice “Niecy” Barron, Brenda “Starr” Chesson and four brothers Leonard “Hawk” Barron, Clarence “Sir Guy” Barron, Harold “HB” Barron and Charles “Blue” Cartwright.

“Fatz” was charming, regal, clever, chic, comical, witty and simply a beautiful person both inside and out.  She was well loved by all who knew and encountered her. Although, “Fatz” was a part of an already large and growing family, working in retail expanded her family even more.  Many of her coworkers cherished and embraced her warm nature and dubbed her as “MA”, while her sense of humor, smile, and unique way of imposing laughter to any situation earned her the name as, “The Original Entertainer”.

“Fatz”, brilliant and creative mind allowed her to coordinate and star in many of her own hilarious comedy skits that she had written and performed for her family and friends. She hosted the best family gatherings and parties and the entertainment was the highlight of them all. She was undoubtedly the life of any party. Her mere presence would brighten the darkest of days and uplift your spirit even if hers was down. “Fatz” was a mood changer, even during her illness, she made sure everyone around her was smiling and laughing. She loved the beach and would spend countless hours enjoying the sound of the waves, the warmth of the sun and sand and the coolness of the ocean’s misty breeze.   Every summer she made it a ritual to head to the beach with her infamous “care pack” which consisted of boiled eggs, a variety of sandwiches, cold fried chicken legs, cheese puffs, and plenty of drinks for the kids to stay hydrated because returning home was not on the schedule until she had soaked up all the sun and stars were in the sky. The ocean was her oasis and “happy” place.

She embodied a vault of knowledge, love, and sincere advice, and was one of the easiest people to talk to. Her laid-back personality offered a comfortable vibe making it easy for anyone to share their deepest secrets with her knowing whatever they shared was safely guard and would not be shared with anyone else. “Fatz” maintained personal and sincere relationships and friendships with many. She was truly a rare jewel to have in life.

Her love and faith in God were evident, as she accepted Him as Lord of her life and Savior of her soul. She verbally confessed her love and adoration towards Him and as her body became frail and weak, she made it known to family that she was ready to enjoy her Heavenly home!

“Fatz”, Tricia, Pat, Ma, Grandma, Sis, Auntie, Cousin, or whatever she was to you, always made sure you knew she was a real friend! She truly loved her family and believed that maintaining family unity was important. She was such a thoughtful, generous, and gentle soul; yet a funny, feisty person who loved to live, laugh, joke and enjoy herself. One motto she held firmly to was “No Fool No Fun”, and she had a way of expressing her joy while convincing others to join her.

She leaves to cherish her memories as her torch continues to brightly burn in the hearts of her children LyNard E. Barron (Janelle) of Richmond, VA; LaTicia N. Barron and LaVarr A. Barron both of Chesapeake, VA; her grandchildren, great grand-children, her goddaughter Dannyelle Skinner of Georgia, three beautiful sisters Thelma E. Taylor of Norfolk, VA; Gracie C. Butts of Chesapeake, VA;  and Joyce B. Gardner of Chesapeake, VA;  an adopted son Darrell Stokes of Chesapeake, VA; and a strong supportive tribe of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, extended family and coworkers.

Rest In Peace my beautiful auntie. I’m so glad I was able to fly home this past summer and Christmas to bask in your presence. I’ll never forget hugging you and you always saying “you and your twin have a smile just like my brothers.” Hearing that always made me smile because HB was our guy!! Watch over your family from heaven and watch over me in California. You would have absolutely loved the beaches out here. Forever in my heart!! Love you forever!
