Sandra Juanita Harvey

We remember and celebrate the life of Sandra Juanita Harvey, affectionately known as Ms. San, who was born on June 8, 1946, and passed away on December 9, 2024. Residing in Chesapeake, Virginia, Sandra was a loving, smart, spirited, and witty woman who had an unquenchable thirst for life and an innate ability to spread that joy to those around her.

Sandra’s career as a Certified Nursing Assistant was a testament to her unwavering dedication and compassion towards those in need. In the realm of Home Health Care, she was known for her patient-centric approach and her strong commitment to improving the quality of life for her patients. Sandra was not only a certified nursing assistant but had also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work.

She found joy and fellowship in her church communities, The New Saint James A.M.E. Church, and later the First Baptist West-Munden Church. Sandra’s melodious voice could often be heard uplifting the congregation as a member of the #2 Choir, Senior/Sanctuary Choir, and The New Gospel Choir. Her hobbies of singing and cooking brought immeasurable joy to her family and friends, making every gathering a memorable celebration.

She has joined in eternal peace her parents, Deree Smith and Thelma Stancil; sisters, A. Louise Johnson, Barbara Stancil and Agenora Hortense Taylor; brothers, Arcelius Brickhouse, Harold Stancil, Ralph Stancil, Carlton Stancil, Lorenzo Smith and grandson, Donnell Gilliam.

Sandra is survived by her sons, Cedric (Valdenia) Harvey and Rodney Harvey; her granddaughters, KeShara Gilliam, Chelsea Quinn, and Zhanni Harvey; her great-grandsons, Zachary Isidore, Aaron Isidore and Jacob Isidore; siblings, Ella Mae Wilson, Margaret Coleman and Clyde Stancil and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

As we mourn the loss of Sandra, we remember the words of Matthew 5:4, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” We find solace in knowing that Sandra’s spirited life was a blessing to many and her memory will continue to inspire us.

    Deepest sympathy and prayers to the Stancil/Harvey family in Sandra’s passing. May God bless and comfort each of you at this sad time. In earlier years, Sandra was a charter member of the New Gospel Choir of First Baptist Church West Munden Chesapeake, Va which her aunt, the late Fannie Custis was instrumental in getting organized. Rest in peace, Sandra; we love you; however, God loves you best.

    Dear Family: Please accept our sincere and heartfelt condolences during this difficult time of bereavement. Sandra and I were alto buddies in the #2 Choir, Senior/Sancturary Choir and The New Gospel Choir. I remember whenever we had something at church and we were asked to bring a dish, Sandra would always bring her favorite her famous roast beef with rice and veggies, Rest well my friend and choir buddy and keep smiling up there with Jests. Until we meet again on the other side.
