Samuel Luke Hammond born on December 7, 1941 to the late James Hammond and Mary Davis of Norfolk, VA, departed
this world to claim his eternal rest on September 5, 2018. He was married to the late Delores Hammond. Samuel had one
son, Vince and a very special friend, Ms. Ernestine Mitchell. Samuel “Sammy” attended Booker T. Washington High School. He enlisted in the United States Reserve and worked as a short shoreman as a crew leader for many years. He was awarded a letter of heroism for going into b burning building and saved a little girl. He tried to go in again however, the fire was intense. He was a wonderful and caring man.
Samuel was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Hammond; his parents, James and Mary Hammond; his siblings, Essie
Hines, Anne Sampson, Manuel and Dwight Hammond, James Jr. And Tyrone Davis. Sammy was full of life impacting all he
knew. He loved his family and always gave words of wisdom and encouragement to others. His memory is cherished by his
son, Vince (Lytanja) his life partner, Ms. Ernestine Mitchell, a grandson, Elmonte Battle and sisters Clara Jeanette Holloman
and Dorothy James, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
