Salinda Lee Alvin passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 in Portsmouth, VA. She was born on August 11, 1954 to the late William Thomas Debrough Sr. and Carrie Lee Porter. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. She was employed as a sheet metal helper with George G. Sharpe. She enjoyed fellowshipping with family and friends and listening to music. She was the life of the party. Our mother was also “known” for her “Green Thumb” with caring for her plants. They were her babies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William T. Debrough Sr. and Carrie Lee Porter; two sisters, Mary Harris and Carrie Bazen, and six brothers, William T. Debrough Jr., William A. Debrough, Walter Debrough, James Debrough, Pernell Debrough, and Joe Henry Debrough.
She is survived by her children, Salinda D. Porter and Walter M. Alvin Jr. (Monica); four grandchildren, Demario Daughtry, Markiylah Porter, Marquez Porter, and Walter M. Alvin III; eight great grandchildren, Jailyn Peoples, Jaleiyah Peoples, Alyssa Santiago, Deonte’ Ridley, Skylah Peoples, Saij Daughtry, and My’King Porter; six sisters, Viola Watson, Rosa Wright, Thelma Dunn, Dorothy Carney, Orlene Mitchell, Barbara Debrough, and Carolyn Debrough; three brothers, Linwood Debrough, George Debrough, and Clarence Debrough, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A very special friend, her “Ole Man” Ruben C. Porter.
