Ruth Virginia Williams

Sunrise: August 3, 1936

Sunset: January 9, 2025

Ruth Virginia Williams was born in Norfolk, Virginia, to Anzie Reid and Christopher Columbus Jones. Ruth attended Norfolk Public Schools and earned a certificate as a nursing aide. She worked as a companion, housekeeper, nanny, personal, and nursing aide until retirement. Ruth was always eager and willing to give her time in her church; from C.H. Mason Memorial to Refuge, from singing in the choir, to cooking in the kitchen. Ma Ruth’s passion was cooking, and there was nothing she couldn’t cook. Her spirit was so pure, kind, passionate, and loving. Ma Ruth will truly be missed, yet never forgotten.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Williams, her son, Anthony Lee Jamison, and grandkids, Chadiya Jones and Justin Neal.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Angeline Rowell (Delbert), of Portsmouth, Virginia, Saundra Jones of Norfolk, Virginia, and Bernetta Jones of Raleigh, North Carolina, her sons, James Williams (Tammy), and Dion Williams (Tammy) both of Chesapeake, Virginia; also a host of grandchildren (including Tunishia Jones, who was her best friend, confidant, a shoulder, and an ear), great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other family members.
