Roy McCoy Richardson departed this life at the age of 76 on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Waterside Health & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on April 21, 1948, in South Norfolk, Va., and was the youngest of six children to the late Roy and Irene Richardson. Roy was preceded in death by his brother Herman Richard and sister Joan House.
Roy loved to sing old-school R&B songs and would hit those high notes that would put a smile on your face. Besides singing, he loved to dance. It didn’t matter where he was when he heard music, those feet would spring into action creating a scene for others to join in on his favorite style of dance called “hand dancing” When Roy wasn’t cutting the rug, he’d watch old Western movies. His outspokenness will be greatly missed. He’d be happy to know we’ll continue to celebrate his memories.
He leaves to cherish his son Mark Cooper of Norfolk, VA; Two daughters: Mary Rich of Phoenix, AZ; Tomicka (Toni) Brown of Norfolk, VA; Three sisters: Daisy Bland of VA Beach, VA; Joyce Richardson of Bronx, NY; Geraldine Richardson of New Windsor, NY; One brother: Maurice Richardson of Norfolk, VA; Eleven grandchildren, Myles Cooper, Mariah Cooper, Moya Cooper, Miriam Cooper, Amon Ra Cooper, Malachi Cooper; India Gregory, Avery Gregory Jr, Erica Lassiter, A’sia Colbert, Ashley Brown, Tyler Brown. Ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends
