Rose M. Chery, 83, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. She was born February 7, 1941, to the late Alphonso and Martha Riddick in Winfall, North Carolina. Rosa received her formal education at Perquimans County School in Winfall, North Carolina.
She later moved to Uniondale, New York to pursue a better life and career. She attended Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, and then went on to complete her education at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York where she received her master’s degree and soon landed a job at Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. High School as a 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade teacher where she stayed until she retired.
She was a kind, loving, mother, sister, cousin, and aunt and will be greatly missed by all who loved her. She loved spending time with her one and only child, Leon, whom she loved and adored more than anything. She enjoyed traveling, going to art museums, reading a good book, and patronizing different restaurants. She was a long-time resident of Uniondale, New York.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alphonso and Martha Riddick; her husband LeClair Chery; five brothers, Walter Riddick, Milton Riddick, Carlton Riddick, James Riddick, and Theodore Riddick; three sisters, Mrytle Riddick, Willie Mae Newby, and Dorothy Lee Sheppard; two nephews, Barry Riddick and Preston Felton.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her son Leon Stone, NY, brother, Rudolph Riddick, DC; sister, Martha “Ella” Felton, VA; nephews, Theodore Riddick, MD, Mario Felton, VA; nieces, Gmerice Riddick, MD, Michelle (James) Hinton, NY, Charlotte “Lisa” Sheppard, VA, Adrienne “Sabrina” Weaver, VA, and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
