Ronald “Ron” Durr, 54, passed away unexpectedly on September 3, 2024, at Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Born on June 19, 1970, in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. Ron graduated with Academic Honors from Kettering High School in 1988. In 1991, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an Information Systems Technician (IT), where he reached the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After 20 years and 11 months, Ronald retired his anchors. Shortly after retirement, Ronald decided to further his education as an IT by enrolling in ECPI, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree and certifications, such as Security+, and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). This led to his position as the IT Supervisor for the Hampton Roads Regional Jail, where he worked until March 28, 2024, when its doors closed. Although the jail closed, Ronald was then re-hired part-time until his untimely passing.
Ronald dedicated his life to Christ and became a member of Bread of Life Ministry on September 2, 2012. He recently began his journey as a deacon and was the treasurer for the men’s group Back In Spot. He also enjoyed working on computers, listening to old-school music, fixing things, and watching the Detroit Lions. Ronald was a member of the bike club Tearing Roads Up (TRU), in which he was known as “2 Words” because he rarely spoke. Two things that helped shape Ronald’s life were the Chief’s Mess and His Bike Club.
Ronald leaves behind his wife, Stacey L Ancar, whom he met in August of 2009 and dated until they wed on February 24, 2018. Children: D’Angelo Durr, Tymar Hubbard-Durr, DeAnna Durr and Elodie Meador. Bonus Son Michael L Ancar Jr. Mother, Catherine Pursley; siblings Harold “Shaun” Durr and Torie (Jermaine) Woods; grandchildren; Amare, Layla, and Zuri. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Nakia “Baby Girl” Durr-Whitney. Ronald will be remembered for his strength, willingness to help others, and kindness. His legacy will endure in the memories of those who knew and loved him.

September 23, 2024 at 10:12 amMy homie. I can’t believe I am writing this even though I knew you were in failing health. I enjoyed every minute of our friendship Especially going to Lions games in Detroit and in Baltimore and watching them together on TV. You Were very uplifting during my last days of employment at the Hampton Roads Regional Jail. It was a Tumultuous end for me and you were a calming force for me. I think of you every time I watch the Lions play and it’s only fitting that you be buried in that jersey because you love the team dearly. From one, Chief Petty Officer to another Fair-winds and following sea.

Ron you were a great co worker at HRRJ. You were a funny, gracious and especially strong fighter, having stayed working when most wouldn’t have. I’m glad that I got to work with you and you will be dearly missed.
