Robert M. Davis

Robert Michael Davis was born in Ahoskie, North Carolina, to the late Robert and Elaine Davis on October 1, 1949.  He departed this life on Sunday, July 26, 2020, at Virginia Commonwealth Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia.

At an early age Michael joined Philippi Baptist Church in Cofield, North Carolina.  He later joined Hopewell Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and remained a member until his death.  He received his early education at Calvin Scott Brown High School in Winton, North Carolina. He completed his education at Gwinnett Technical College in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Michael worked as a service worker for the city of Murfreesboro, and he also was a customer service assistant at the Rand Corporation in Santa Monica, California. He retired in 2001, as a Quality Control Analyst at Atlanta Casualty in Atlanta, Georgia.

Michael found joy in writing poetry, listening to music, playing scrabble, watching jeopardy, and watching his favorite football team, the Washington Redskins.

Michael was well traveled. He spent many years living in New Jersey, California, and Georgia.

Michael was on the Board of Directors for the Sydney Pond Homeowners Association under the direction of the state of Georgia.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Naomi Toleta Manley Davis, of 34 years; a devoted daughter, Melody Joyce (Joshua ) of  New York, New York; a loving granddaughter, MaClendon Joyce of New York, New York; three sisters Patricia Dozier ( Scott Lucas ) of Rich Square, North Carolina; Linda Pierce ( Larry ) of Ahoskie, North Carolina; Rebecca Josephine Peoples of Lexington, North Carolina; sisters-in-law Lillian Joyner ( Thomas) of Suffolk, Virginia; Yvette Copeland ( George) of Suffolk, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Michael enjoyed walking on the Santa Monica Pier and the scenery of Venice Beach.

Many knew Michael for his sense of humor, old stories, advice, and his great breakfast.  He was a true friend to many and will be missed by all.

    I was totally shocked and heartbroken when I got the call about Mike’s passing. Over the last 20 plus years we made a lot of good memories that I’ll forever cherish. Mike was a very good, kind human being. We shared so many laughs, and an array of different conversations and discussions. Especially him taking us to his history class! I’m here for you Naomi & Melody! You both have my sincere condolences and heartfelt prayers!
