A Time to Be Born
Robert was born on February 3, 1961 at 1:25 pm in Jersey City, NJ to Julia Epps and the late Paul Epps.
A Time to Learn
Robert was educated in Jersey City where he attended Public School #34 and Henry Snyder H.S. Robert played football for the Tigers #74, and after graduating high school, Robert joined the United States Coast Guard on September 17, 1979.
A Time to Love
Robert first met (unofficially) the love of his life, Miriam in the newborn nursery at Margaret Hayes Hospital, Jersey City, NJ. Robert proposed to his love Miriam at the South Street Seaport (NY), the summer of 1987. They were married on May 21,1988, and were blessed to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary this past May 21st.
A Time to Work
Robert joined the United States Coast Guard September 17,1979 and served for 20 years before retiring in April 2000. Robert then went to work for United States Coast Guard Finance Center on May 19, 2002 and then retired January 23, 2016.
A Time to Worship
Robert gave his life to the Lord in San Diego, CA in 1981. He joined Living Praise Church (formally) Faith Christian Fellowship, and some years later would worship at Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, NY. Robert and Miriam then moved to Virginia in May of 1996, where they joined Calvary Revival Church in 1997. Robert served in the Audio/Sound Ministry, Ushers Ministry, and to date remains a Faithful member.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Miriam Epps; his son, Isaiah Epps, his mother, Julia Epps; two sisters, Paula Crosby ( Paul) and Julie Epps; one brother/cousin, Brian Lane (Carol), his father and mother-in-law, Lewis and Hazel Bellamy, Sr.; two brothers-in-law; Lewis Bellamy, Jr. (Beverly) and Lamont Bellamy(Terry); four nieces, Janel McNeal, Patrice Crosby, Kanydah Bellamy, and Imani Bellamy; three nephews, Paul Crosby (Allison), Brandis Bellamy, and Seth Bellamy; dear friends and godparents of Isaiah, James and Kathy Williams; along with a host of family and friends.
A Time to Reflect
Robert was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Robert was a family man, and had a great passion for Aortic (heart) Health Awareness. Robert was an aortic disease survivor whose aorta was almost totally reconstructed. Robert said, “I know this is one of the purposes for which my life was spared during my surgeries, that I may encourage and be a blessing to the heart patients I serve. Truly, it’s great to be alive … and to help others”.
Robert first began speaking in 2006, where he attended and spoke at the 10th Annual Aortic Health Summit at Columbia University with others. In 2007, he spoke at the Yale University Aortic Health Conference. In 2009, Robert conducted his first aortic health gathering in Jersey City, NJ. In 2012, Robert became a published author with his book, ” The Human Aorta Your Super Highway of Life”.
National Organization for Aortic Awareness (N.O.A.A) was established and adopted as a non-profit organization by Robert on October 14, 2010. He volunteered at Sentara Norfolk General and Sentara Heart Hospital for 10 years. Robert was also featured in the February 2008 issue of Ebony magazine. In 2013, Robert conducted his first annual Veterans Health Exposition in Hampton, VA. In 2013- Nov, the Human Aorta Your Super Highway of Life was approved for distribution to vascular patients by the Vice President of Patient Services. Robert was a member of the Bernard I Hines Chapter 21 DAV for 10 years, and continued speaking, visiting, and educating people on aortic health, until he became ill.
