Robert Eugene Johnson went to his eternal rest to be with the Lord and Savior on July 25, 2024. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia on March 1, 1948, to the late Robert L Johnson and Alease V. Johnson. He was fondly called by family and friends, BJ, Bobby, Dad, Steppie, Pop Pop, Granddad, and Uncle.
He attended Norfolk Public Schools and later worked as a Merchant Seaman traveling to many countries around the world on many occasions. He was also a painter at the Norfolk Naval Base. He was a faithful member of the Mellow Fellas from Campostella.
He was a loving husband to his “Bae”, Margaret, as he lovingly called her for 25 years plus. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly. He was a snappy dresser and you would almost always see him with his hats and bling. He just was always impeccably dressed even when he wore a sweat suit. He loved Christian music in which he loved our Lord and he loved jazz music. He loved UNC Tarheel basketball, the NFL Raiders, and the NBA Lakers. He was always willing to give his knowledge or a helping hand when he could.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny L. Johnson, and sisters, Joyce Washington, Deloise Alease Stewart, and Kathryn Batts.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Johnson; sons, Brian Morgan and Mark Yancey Sr. (Jana), stepson, Joseph King, and stepdaughter Katina King; 17 Grandchildren, 19 Great-Grandchildren, Godson, Joseph Turner and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

August 7, 2024 at 12:07 pmMy condolences to the family of Mr. BJ. He was a very good friend of my father, Sam Allen. Mr. BJ was his boy!
I will always remember when I worked at Cox, there could be five empty tellers, but Mr. BJ would not let anyone wait on him but me. I never saw him where he was not dressed to the tee. Only he could call me Lavanta, when my name is really Avanti. My dad and I will hold that as one of the many found memories.
Rest on Mr. BJ
