Ricky O. Speller

Ricky entered this world on October 21, 1956 and departed this world on August 21, 2023. He was born to the beloved Samuel (deceased) and Cora Speller in Bertie, North Carolina.

Ricky studied at Christopher Newport, Newport News, VA. He pursued his dreams to serve in the United States Military, joining the Army. He received the National Defense Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal and The Marksman M-16 Medal.  After leaving the military, he returned home to embark on his new life journey.

Ricky loved waking up to that first cup of morning coffee. He loved his family with his whole heart and soul. He loved football and to all that knew him; you already know the name of his team, the “DALLAS COWBOYS”, all day, everyday. Ricky also loved and played baseball and bingo. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, listening to music, especially Sade and The O’Jays and walking his favorite dog, Midnight. He loved helping people and encouraged all he came in contact with. Most of all, Ricky LOVED LIFE and he LIVED IT to the FULLEST.

Ricky is preceded in death by his father, Samuel Speller; sister, Cynthia Denise Gregory (James, deceased); brothers, Keith Speller and Larry Stokes.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his BELOVED mother, the matriarch, Cora Lee Speller; his beloved sisters, Tracey Stokes, Kim Alexander (Curtis), Hope Starks (Lorenzo), Rhoda Speller and Kedra Speller, all from Portsmouth, VA. His beloved brother, Antoine Speller (LaTwanya, deceased) of Charlotte, NC and a special friend, Ira Lathan. Ricky also leaves to cherish is memory, host of nieces, nephews, cousins and all that loved him.

Ricky will truly be missed.
