Raymond Davis, Sr.

Sunrise: December 29, 1962

Sunset: November 3, 2024

“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.” ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17‬:‭7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Mr. Raymond Davis, Sr., or “Coach Davis” as he was called by many, was born in East Meadow, NY, to Ms. Shirley Nelson Davis and the late Willie Davis.

Coach Davis was educated in the Chesapeake Public School System, where he later worked Security at Oscar Smith Middle School, Southwestern Elementary School, and Rena B. Wright Primary School. He participated in sports while attending Oscar Smith High School and would later coach football and track at Oscar Smith Middle and High School. In addition, Raymond coached AAU football when his sons were very young, played softball for the ILA Cubs for approximately 30 years, and officiated as a USATF Certified Official under the USATF Virginia Association from 2013-2021. Coach Davis loved football but would often say, “Track is my baby.” But when it came to NFL Football, he was all things 49ers.

Coach Davis had a love for people and was well-known and loved by many. His love for his family was to be admired, especially for his children and grandchildren. Coach Davis loved the Lord, he loved music and would often sit with his headphones on, shutting out everyone and everything as he listened to worship, especially on those rough days. He became a deacon while attending Bethel Temple Church, Portsmouth, VA, but most recently attended Kingdom Minded Ministries, Suffolk, VA.

He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife, Natasha L. Davis, and mother, Shirley Davis; mother-in-law Joyce L. McKoy (Bobby); father-in-law Jeremiah Riggans (Sonia); four children, Raymond Davis, Jr. (Fayetta), Rayshawn Davis, Raynesha Davis (Tyree) and Raychell Davis; two bonus sons William Council II (Shanika) and Jesse Chasten, Jr.; one brother Pastor Freddie Davis (Vicky); four sisters Arlene Davis, Francine Davis Clark (Reginald), Willa Mae Davis and Mulinda Harper; three brother-in-laws Bobby McKoy, Jr. (Anissa), Isadore Riggans (Pattie), Christopher Riggans (Sarai); one sister-in-law Ebony Riggans; four aunts Margaret Smith (Count), Margaret Banks, Veronica McMillan (Kenneth) and Emma Davis; two uncles James Diggs and Larry Diggs; fourteen grandchildren, several godchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

To the Davis Family, It is my prayer that the comfort and strength of the Holy Spirit will surround and uphold you all during this time of mourning. I too have great memories of growing up in LBJ apartments and attending First Baptist Church during our childhood. I had no words when I heard of Raymond’s passing. He was a sweet person and a great coach. He taught my nieces, nephew, and my godson. They loved him. He was the best!. Rest in the arms of Jesus my friend.
