Ray McKinley Washington was born on June 5, 1963 in Franklin County, North Carolina. He entered eternal rest on September 29, 2022 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was the son of the late Mattie Bell and Milton Washington Sr., and was raised in North Carolina and attended Vance County Schools. He later joined the Job Corps where he continued his studies. He then moved to Virginia, where he resided until his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie and Milton Sr. and his brother, Milton Lee Washington Jr.

Family was very important to Ray. He was the uncle that his nieces and nephews came to for everything. He was always the life of the party. Before the loss of his legs, Ray could be seen dancing everywhere. He always had a joke to tell. But he would put you in your place when he needed to. He leaves to cherish his memories, two sisters, Clara Branch (Joel) of Louisburg, NC, and Shirley Washington of Norfolk, VA; a brother, William Washington Sr. (Rose) of Norfolk, VA. Ray also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

    Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of Ray Washington. Ray was a beautiful Soul and he will be dearly missed. He had a contagious laugh and a giving spirit. He loved life and he loved being around family and friends. His journey has come to a close but the remnants of his life will live on in those he has touched.

    Ray was so kind hearted and rarely had a cross word or negative response no matter the situation.
    His tenacity and humor through his health challenges endeared him to me. His laughter I am sure is resounding in heaven as he is able to do all the things he was limited to by his health.
    Rest In Peace Ray… you will be missed.
