Racheal Adell Dent

Sunrise: October 26, 1988

Sunset: September 9, 2022

On September 9, 2022, Racheal Adell Dent entered eternal rest and was welcomed into the loving arms of God. The youngest of three children, Racheal was born to proud parents, Patricia Speller-Dent and Terrence Dent on October 26, 1988 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Beautiful, inside and out, Racheal was a happy child who could brighten any room with her infectious smile.

Racheal lived life aloud, to the fullest, and in her uniqueness. She was cool, a woman of God, one who embraced herself and her style, sported an afro and glasses suited just for her, laughed aloud and danced when everyone or no one was looking. She enjoyed doing crafts, traveling with friends, reading romantic novels, all genres of music, walking her precious, Daisy, and spending time with her huge family.  She was kind, sweet, creative, and an advocate for others, particularly children.

Preceding her in death were her maternal grandmother, Sheila Brothers; paternal grandmother, Adell Dent; aunts, Sandra Dent and Sonya Dent; and uncle, Clarence Dent. Racheal was loved by many and leaves to cherish her memory, mother, Patricia Speller-Dent; father, Terrence Dent; two brothers, Julius Speller and Patrick Speller; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

I was shocked and dismayed to hear of Racheal’s transition. Parents aren’t supposed to witness the passing of their children! But obviously, God knows the plans He has for us all. I just wish He would have left her here for a lot longer. May the Dent family find comfort in her memories and dwell in the prayers and love of family, friends and well-wishers. God bless and keep you!

Surely life is full of twists and turns and this has twisted me to the core. The Dent family has been in my life for greater than 20+ years; therefore knowing Ms. Racheal all of those years she is truly family. An angelic spirit, an inviting smile , that warm embrace, intelligent conversation is what she always had and politeness. God needed her. Her assignment was complete. She has truly left a beautiful example of righteous living and loving the Lord. Rest sweet Racheal rest. To the Dent family ride on with KING JESUS. He still reigns.

Giving leaves an imprint that endures forever–African Proverb. Although your time with us seems all too brief, GOD wanted you now and he set you free. It is important for you to know that you truly made a difference here. You reached out to others warmly and generously. You accomplished a lot and gave a great deal.
We know that you are following the path GOD led for you and could not stay another day to laugh, to work or play. Your parting has left a void, but your AGGIE FAMILY will fill it with memories of Racheal Dent joys. We love you Racheal-your college advisor

I had the pleasure of knowing Racheal and working alongside her for several years. It was impossible to be in a bad mood when she was around. She radiated love and joy. As a librarian, she was dedicated to her kids, her “peeps” as she called them. She cared about each one of them and it showed. They adored her as we all did. We shared a love of music and she could go. I would literally watch her dance across the floor to her office. I always looked forward to seeing her. I saw her recently, we laughed and hugged. She always made me smile or laugh. I can hear her voice in my mind. I will always love her and remember her. She set a good example every day. No one did it better. I know I must have faith at times like these – losing someone you love, with such vitality, so young and there must be a higher purpose- maybe for each of us to treasure the sanctity of life- to realize we never know when the last time we see someone could be the last time we see them in this life as it was for me. I will always be thankful for the blessing of knowing & loving Racheal. I pray for her family and friends. May God bless her sweet soul.

We could never find the words to express our deep sorrow in the passing of your lovely daughter, Racheal. Our hearts were deeply saddened when we learned that she had transitioned to be with her Heavenly Father. We had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Racheal when she and our daughter, Erica, were students at NC A&T State University. We found her to be a sweet, pleasant and an articulate young lady. May God – the great I AM – give you strength, peace, understanding and comfort during this most difficult time and in the days ahead. Lean on Him for He will see you through. Hold fast to the memories you shared with Racheal for they will allow her to forever live in your hearts. We extend our deepest condolences and love. You all will remain in our thoughts and prayers. “Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4.

Rachel – I remember your smile, your infectious laugh, and your passion about the children in the library and sharing books with them. You exposed a lot of children to the joys of reading and literature. Your time was too short with us. You will be missed.
