Queen Esther Person Wiggins, 90, was born December 5, 1934, to the late James Brady Person and Minnie Russell Person in Emporia, Virginia. She was the youngest child of that union of ten children. Queen settled down on a long winter nap and departed this life peacefully late on Christmas night, December 25, 2024, and said in her spirit, “Merry Christmas” to all and all a good night.

She loved the Lord and was not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was very active in the ministry at the Church of God In Christ in Norfolk, Virginia.
She was an entrepreneur. She opened up a café’ called Campostella Grill located on Wilson Road in Norfolk, Virginia. After she closed that business, she worked in the daycare department of New Hope Church of God in Christ until her health started failing.

She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted son, Allan Wiggins, and her grandchildren; five sisters, Ethel Scott, Elizabeth Kennedy (William), Florence Frederick (Carl), Marion Sheck, and Lillie McGhee; brother, James Person and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

January 7, 2025 at 3:04 pmQueen was a true embodiment of grace, wisdom, and quiet strength. She wasn’t just my grandfather’s sister—she was a connection to a legacy of love, resilience, and family.
When I think of her, I feel the warmth of her hugs and the peaceful strength of her presence. She had a way of making you feel seen and loved, not with loud proclamations but with a simple, undeniable kindness. Every cookout, every gathering where I got to speak with her, left me feeling grateful to be part of a family rooted in faith and community.
It’s always in times of loss that we say, “We need to see each other more, spend more time together.” But Queen Esther showed us that love and connection aren’t measured in how often we gather—they live in the moments we carry with us, in the stories passed down, and in the lessons we learn from watching a life well-lived.
While I wish I had known her even better, this isn’t about regret—it’s about gratitude. I’m thankful for the time we shared, for the lessons I didn’t realize I was learning, and for the example of a life devoted to God, family, and service.
As we say goodbye, I’m comforted by the thought of seeing her again one day, sitting around a heavenly cookout, sharing stories and laughter with my grandfather by her side. Until then, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
Rest up, Queen. Your legacy of love will never be forgotten.
