On Saturday, October 5, 2024, Phyllis Ann Williams was quietly removed from her earthly vessel, took on immortality, and went to her heavenly home with the Lord Jesus Christ. Phyllis was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, to the late Josephine J. Jones and the late Benjamin E. Jones, Sr., on May 22, 1948.
Phyllis attended Portsmouth Public Schools, graduating from I.C. Norcom High School in the Class of 1966. She subsequently earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Norfolk State University (NSU) in Norfolk, VA in 1970. She retired from the graduate studies department at NSU after decades of dedicated service as an administrative assistant. She was a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ and a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Tribe of Zebulun.
She enjoyed watching television- especially QVC and HSN channels, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Arthur Williams, Jr.; three sons: Anthony C. Williams (Shernita) of Suffolk, VA, Phillip A. Williams (Jennifer) of Chesapeake, VA, and Christopher B. Williams (late Shayla) of Newport News, VA; three grandsons: Daquan Williams, Phillip A. Williams, Jr., and Kori Williams; sister Cynthia Choate (Nick) of Clover, South Carolina; brother Tony Jones (Catherine) of Hopewell, VA; aunt Mary McNabb of Brooklyn, New York; aunt Alberta Jones (late James) of Portsmouth, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Bennie E. Jones, Jr.

October 16, 2024 at 11:27 pmThough I know Phyllis is with Our Father in Heaven, my heart is still heavy because of the loss of my friend, confidant, loving, and reliable and dedicated team-mate and administrative assistant in the office of Graduate Studies at Norfolk State University for until my retirement. Phyllis kept both the Office and me organized and functioning in an efficient manner. I can truly say that I never would made it without her.
Life will surely go on without her physical presence but I will forever cherish and remember the love and joy she brought to my life and the many lessons I learned from her as we worked side by side over the many years. Additionally, I will miss sending and receiving birthday, Christmas and other notes just to keep in contact and chat about all that was happening as we progressed in age. Nothing can ever erase the memories cherished, love and respect I had and have for this loving and compassionate great lady. With an humble and grateful heart, I will simply say Farewell and Rest in Peace until we meet again.
Phyllis, I love you.

October 30, 2024 at 3:50 pmTo the family of Phyllis, my condolences to her family. My prayer is that God’s Peace be with you all. I worked in VP Finance and Business next to Phyllis at NSU in the administration building, she was always the same, such a gentle spirit. She spoke often of her boys. Hold to God’s unchanging hand. Be Blessed!
