Perry Darnell McCloud, better known as Darnell, went to be with the Lord on June 18, 2025, at Sentara Leigh Hospital. He was born to the late Alfonzo Dailey and Minnie Rea Hammond on June 24, 1955, in Norfolk, VA. He worked on the Norfolk Naval Base as a warehouseman and drove trucks in and out of town for years, as a Receiving Supervisor in a Rewarehousing Program for the Royal Saudi Arabian Air Force located at Ali Al Salem Air Force Base in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia. Perry was very passionate about basketball and played Varsity for the Norview High School Pilots, graduating in 1975. He also played basketball in Saudi Arabia. Perry coached his sons and their neighborhood friends, called the Street Ballers, in the Lake Edwards Basketball Tournament in 2002. He also coached them in the Allen Iverson Celebrity Summer Classic tournament at Lake Taylor High School. He was a man of compassion and was known in his neighborhood as Mr. Perry. He watched out for his neighbors and would help them in any way he could. He saw generations of neighborhood kids grow up, and some would come back to see him from time to time. Perry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially at family reunions. During his illness, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Perry was predeceased by his mother, Minnie Rea Hammond; paternal father Alfonzo Daily, brother Michael McCloud, grandparents Annie Bell and Leo McCloud, cousins Randy McCloud and David Stewart.
Perry leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Annette McCloud; father, Robert Hammond; children, Perry Lee, Antione and Andre Hurdle, Michael McCloud and his wife, Jessica McCloud, and Terrence McCloud; siblings, Carolyn McCloud, Reginald McCloud, Paulette McCloud, Steven McCloud, Cecil McCloud, and his wife Ronda McCloud, Bobby McCloud, Marion McCloud Fentress, Kenneth Fentress, Marquis McCloud, and Robert J. Hammond. He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Perry was deeply loved and will be truly missed.
