Paula Butler Jordan, 53, of Norfolk, VA, was called home by her Lord to a new teaching assignment on November 6, 2021. Paula was born in Washington, DC, to Winston Butler, Jr. and the former Diane V. Williams, on July 4, 1968. She was preceded in death by her father Winston and her father James Paige, Sr., and her sister Vonetta McDonald. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Paige L. Jordan and Bria A. Jordan; her mother Diane Paige; her brothers Darnell Butler, Sr., Winston Butler III, James Paige, Jr., Bruce Paige, and Brian Paige; Rodney A. Jordan; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
Paula retired in 2014 as an early learning teacher with Norfolk Public Schools with the majority of her years served at Sherwood Forest Elementary. She earned a Master of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from Norfolk State University in 1995, Bachelor of Arts from Bethune Cookman College (University) in 1990, and graduated from Gwynn Park High School (Brandywine, MD) in 1986. Dedicated to her daughters growth and development, Paula ensured Paige and Bria were active in church, participated in dance, cheerleading, music, sports, international travel, and so much more. Paula herself was multi-talented — a scholar, a flutist, a singer, and a linguist.
Integrating the cultural pride of her upbringing, the Bethune charge that “Our children must never lose their zeal for a better world,” and her love of language, Paula transformed her classrooms into mini United Nations of learning where she heralded as a “Lead Ambassador of Teacher Excellence.” With her dulcet voice galvanizing the students, Paula was proud to infuse French, Spanish, and Arabic languages into her high expectations of teaching and learning for each and every student.
Paula was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated (BCC Spring 1988). Committed to her faith, Paula was an active member of Abyssinia Baptist Church (Norfolk) and previously Christian Temple U.C.C. (Norfolk) and Union Temple Baptist Church (D.C.).

December 16, 2021 at 11:07 amTo the Butler and Jordan Family, My sincere condolences on the loss of your precious loved one Paula. Keeping your family in prayer.
Paula and I attended Bethune Cookman College (University) together and were Line Sisters pledging Alpha Kappa Alpha. Her smile lit up the room and I remember her quit wit and sense of humor.
Rest Well Paula,

December 16, 2021 at 4:34 pmI am so sorry for your loss. Ms. Jordan was my pre-k teacher 20 years ago and I would light up when I got to see her on occasion since I went to school with Bria. Love and prayers go out to the family, may she rest in peace.
