On a special day in Norfolk, Virginia, Margaret and Silas Trowell were blessed by their second child Paul Gregory Trowell on April 23, 1956. On Thursday, January 14, 2021, Paul peacefully departed his life.
During his early childhood, he attended Shiloh Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia. Paul graduated from Lake Taylor High School in 1974 and received a basketball scholarship from Southwest Minnesota State University. After playing for two years, he accepted a position as a Deep-Sea Checker for Hampton Roads Shipping Association – International Longshoreman Association (HRSA-ILA) local 1624. Paul also became an entrepreneur by investing in real estate. Later, he earned an Associate Degree in Social Work and worked in the field part-time.
Some of Paul’s hobbies were playing the guitar, listening to all types of music, playing chess, and drawing abstract faces and scenes. Paul was a very caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Silas Trowell, Jr., his brother, has preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Tyrone Trowell of Norfolk, VA, Paula Trowell of Chesapeake, VA, and Joseph Trowell of Norfolk; a sister Darlene Trowell; Ex-wife Beatrice Williams-Trowell; nine grandchildren Tylik, Kayla, Zeniya, Quantay, Zionna, Tynae, Tydeshia, Jonai, Joseph Jr.; seven great-grandchildren; a nephew Corey (wife Allexis); a niece Darla, all his remaining family members, and friends.
His loving spirit, strong strength, and sense of humor will always be remembered. Although health challenges were continually knocking at his door in his later years, he remained optimistic. He fought a good fight!
