Patricia Celestine Spellman-Corprew, a long time resident of Southside Hampton Roadsand Mother of Eight, was called home to our Lord on Friday, the 12th of July at the age of 68. Born August 19, 1950 in Norfolk, Patricia was raised and grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. She received a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Norfolk State University, after which she spent some time as a substitute teacher for Norfolk Public Schools, and as a field representative for the United States Census Bureau before finally becoming an advocate for the low-income and disabled in the Greater Hampton Roads area working for the Hope House Foundation, where she worked until her retirement in 2000. In her retirement years, Patricia loved spending quality time with her siblings, children, and numerous grandchildren, connecting with her Native American heritage and spreading the Gospel of the Lord to all whom she could reach.
In her death, she was predeceased by her husband, Melvin Coprew; mother and father, Ralph Sr. and Martha Ann; her older brother Ralph, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories her three daughters Sharon Fowlkes(Christopher, Sr.), Melissa Spellman(Ron), and youngest daughter, Joy Corprew, as well as her four sons, Bryan Spellman, David Spellman, Patrick Spellman, and Kevin Corprew; older sister Janice Diane; younger brother, Randolph as well as her 12 grandchildren; Bryan Jr., Shanya, David Jr., Jasmine, Chantel, Romello, Nysir, Aaron, Christian, Ayana, Crystal, Chris, Jr., as well as five
great- grandchildren. She was also loved and cherished by her three nieces, Kathy Taylor, Christine Stokes, Rakeesha Spellman, and one nephew, Jonathan Spellman as well as a host of other relatives and close friends.
