Patrice M. Stancel

Sunrise: August 23, 1959

Sunset: April 11, 2024

Patrice Marietta Stancel, age 64, departed this life on April 11, 2024 surrounded by her family.  She was born on August 23, 1959 in Norfolk, VA, to the late Vernon Thomas and Sallie Marie Stancel.  Patrice was preceded in death by her only male sibling, Melton T. Stancel. Affectionately called “Tricy,” she was the second youngest of the seven Stancel Sisters.

Since graduating from Granby High School in Norfolk, VA, in 1977, Patrice worked diligently throughout the years at several local business establishments: Mason Seafood Restaurant as a cook, Mitchell Formal Wear as a clothes pressor; Calvary Revival School as a teacher’s assistant; Farm Fresh, Belo’s Market, and KFC, as a cashier; and at Glorious Hair Beauty Salon as a shampoo technician.

Upon joining Calvary Revival Center of Norfolk, VA, under the leadership of Bishop B. Courtney McBath, Patrice served as a member of the senior choir. She later became a member of Vision Life Center in Norfolk, VA, under the leadership of Bishop Marcus Louis. She frequented Resounding Joy Ministries of Portsmouth, VA, under the leadership of Pastor Spence Moore.

Patrice accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior while attending Strait Gate Evangelistical Ministries, under the leadership of Pastor Sally A. Williams in 1987. Subordinate to her love for God was her passion for singing, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Patrice leaves to cherish her memory two sons:  Dajuan Stancel  and  Davashio Stancel of Norfolk, VA; nine grandchildren: Da’vasti Stancel, Da’zja Bell-Stancel, K’yonn Stancel, Ny’hei Smith, De’Esca Stancel, Dayzon Stancel, Tayveon Smith,  Dashara Matthews, and N’Shaye Matthews; six sisters: Rev. B. J. Stancel, Bertha Stancel, and Pastor Shirley Sainford of Suffolk, VA, Pastor Sally Williams (Gregory) of Chesapeake, VA, Vanessa Stancel of Winton, NC, and Nina Bellamy (Arthur) of Norfolk, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and closest and dearest friend, Dorothy Ware.

Patrice’s sense of humor, acts of kindness, and her captivating and beautiful smile have left an indelible mark on the hearts of all those who were blessed to know her.  She will be deeply missed.

To the Stancel Family: My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to each of you. A beautiful soul has gone home to her Heavenly Father. May God hold each of you close as you remember your Sister Patrice. I will remember that sweet smile and those soft gentle words. I met Patrice when she was a patient a Sentara Leigh and kept up with her to Bayside Rehabilitation. It was there that my daughter and I visited her and prayed. My daughter fell in love with her and wanted to care for her. That is just the love Patrice passed on to others from her sick bed. I never made it to Suffolk. Rest in Peace Patrice, we loved you but God love you best because you are His.

My husband and I extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers for Rev. BJ Stancel and the entire Stancel family on the passing of your beloved, Patrice. I am reminded of the last moment I shared with Patrice as we prayed and sang together, “My Help” in that nursing home room. The spirit of the Lord met us in that place, and Patrice’s entire mood shifted in that moment. She reminded me of how worship in the middle of your storm can change everything. Patrice will certainly be missed, but we are so grateful that total healing has come, and she suffers no more. May you find peace and comfort in knowing that she has earned her crown. With Love and Sympathy,
